Full Job Description

West Yorkshire Police are looking to appoint an Internet Intelligence Investigator. This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in a unique team, supporting the work of Counter Terrorism Policing.

You will be part of a team gathering intelligence and evidence online using a variety of covert and non-covert techniques in accordance with law. The team are technical and tactical specialists with an expert understanding of the ever-changing online space including trends, technology, social media and communications platforms. You will be working in a dynamic environment, often working to support live-time incidents or gathering evidence against the clock to support charges against those arrested for terrorism offences. You will also be involved in training, sharing best practice regionally and nationally, and providing tactical advice to others working online.

In this challenging role, you will be required to deliver internet intelligence and investigations capability, coordination and to support the unit, providing tactical support and advice to counter terrorism investigations., Please note that the successful candidate will be subject to enhanced level personal and financial vetting checks prior to appointment and developed level personal and financial vetting checks after appointment. You must be a British citizen and eligible to hold a British passport to work in CTP NE., Applicants should be aware that it is not always possible to carry out adequate vetting checks on persons who have not been resident within the UK for the last ten years. Therefore, where this applies, applicants may be refused because it was not possible to vet them to the appropriate standard.

The ideal candidate will have proven technical online knowledge, experience and training, a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office products and the ability to interrogate computerised databases, as well as knowledge and understanding of the Data Protection Act, Computer Misuse Act and European Convention on Human Rights Articles (ECHR). In addition, you must have the ability to navigate social media and the internet to identify intelligence or evidential opportunities.

Due to the nature of this role, we are looking for a candidate who has excellent communication skills, and the physical and emotional resilience to deal with abusive and offences images. You must also be prepared to work flexible hours to suit CTP requirements and be willing and able to travel for business purposes and potentially work for extended periods across or outside NE region.
