Full Job Description

We have a fantastic opportunity for a 30 hours (4 days) Young People's Healthy Relationships worker, to join our existing County wide Teen Health team on a permanent basis.,

  • Working within Children and Family services to provide sexual health and healthy relationship support to young people 11-19 educated within Leicestershire.
  • Working closely in partnership with sexual health providers across Leicestershire and Leicester City to ensure better access to sexual health services, advice and support with a focus on early intervention and prevention.
  • Working with young people in addressing those at risk of poor sexual health and reducing inequalities whilst increasing awareness.
  • Working together with young people within schools, colleges and the local community, through groups and 1:1 support, to increase their knowledge around sexual health and healthy relationships whilst signposting/supporting to access services including contraception and specialist sexual health.
  • Supporting to develop and lead around evidence-based interventions, including group work, for young people which will include promoting positive sexual health and healthy relationships support.
  • Developing effective relationships with schools and colleges to understand the needs in their communities and ensuring young people's voice is captured.
  • To be responsible for working together with schools and colleges and other partners to identify and develop staff training needs, supporting them to engage in sharing information and guidance with parents/carer.
  • Supporting schools and colleges to undertake sexual health promotion activities as part of their PSHE delivery and RSE by helping them to access up to date and relevant information and guidance with specific focus on healthy relationships and sexual health.
  • Leading on promotion and development of increasing referrals for young people who require sexual health support.
  • To be responsible for the development and oversight of the digital sexual health offer within the current teen health website.
  • Delivering sexual health advice and drop ins, including C-Card registration events and distribution.
  • Working with young people to complete assessments of their need and develop plans with them, to help them to achieve their desired outcomes.
  • Promoting Safeguarding and reporting safeguarding concerns, and working within national legislation and local policy, to ensure that young people are safeguarded and accessing the correct level of support.
  • Supporting the wider Teen Health team across the County to ensure that delivery is equitable and consistent for all young people in Leicestershire.
  • Managing your own diary for appointments, meetings, group delivery and recording all interventions with young people.

  • Be educated to a level 3 qualification in a relevant subject OR substantial experience in providing direct support to young people, that clearly demonstrates the experience, skills, competencies and knowledge outlined below.
  • Experience of front-line practice in case and group work with young people and families; including the delivery of sexual health support directly with young people and the ability to effectively communicate with young people in hard-to-reach communities.
  • Ability to negotiate and communicate with a range of local agencies and stakeholders whilst working closely to build relationships and provide a joined-up approach to accessing support.
  • Experience of organising and facilitating training to other professionals with the ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
  • Have knowledge of current sexual health agencies and providers and awareness of barriers and challenges when accessing these, which links directly to PSHE and RSE.
  • Have knowledge and awareness of Safeguarding procedures and the experience of developing a plan of care to safeguard an adult or child in accordance with GDPR and organisational policies and procedures.
  • Be able to prioritise and manage your own workload whilst achieving positive outcomes for young people and have strong organisational skills with the ability to work flexibly and interpedently within delegated responsibility.
  • All applicants must have a full valid driving licence, unrestricted use of a car, and relevant insurances and be willing to travel across Leicestershire to buildings and family's homes, to meet the needs of service delivery.     Teen Health is a universal offer within the Family Help Service, commissioned by Public Health to support the delivery of the Healthy Together Programme for 11-19 year olds educated in Leicestershire. Teen Health supports Young People in Leicestershire to make healthier choices, to sustain healthy, positive relationships and maintain good emotional health.
