Full Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Youngstock Rearer and Milking Assistant to join our team farming a modern well equipped 550+ acre unit with 400 head of Pedigree Jersey cows on the Staffordshire/Derbyshire border. As a Youngstock Rearer, you will be responsible for the care and management of young animals, ensuring their health and well-being, as well as being able to assist with milking when required. This is a hands-on role that requires physical strength and a passion for animal care. Due to the nature of the work this will be a split shift and daily hours will be variable depending on the tasks that are required each day, such as assisting with the milking, vaccinations, moving groups of youngstock, disbudding, steam cleaning hurdles and setting up new pens ready for new calves. The rota will include every other weekend., Provide daily care and feeding of youngstock, including milk calves, weanlings, growing heifers and bulling heifers
- Monitor and maintain clean and comfortable living conditions for the youngstock
- Administer vaccinations and medications as directed by the veterinarian
- Provide postnatal care to ensure the health of newborn animals
- Handle and restrain animals safely during routine procedures
- Maintain accurate records of animal health, growth, and treatments
- Perform basic mathematical calculations for feed mixing and medication dosages
- Perform heavy lifting tasks as required for animal handling and equipment maintenance - Assisting with milking including aiding in the parlour, and moving cow groups around and cleaning the cubicles

Previous experience in animal care, particularly with cattle, is preferred
- Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations for feed mixing and medication dosages

Requirements:
- Strong passion for animal care and welfare
- Physical stamina to perform heavy lifting tasks and work outdoors in various weather conditions
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records
- Ability to handle animals safely and calmly during routine procedures
- Flexibility to work weekends or holidays as needed
