Full Job Description

The PEEER Youth service is a growing team of youth workers with a focus on supporting young people living with a Long-term Heath Condition. We currently have youth workers supporting a variety of specialist areas, both here at University Hospital Southampton (UHS) and other surrounding hospitals. Youth work within our Long-term health condition teams, began here at UHS within our Renal department, supporting young people living with a kidney condition, sometimes Dialysis and Transplantation. This is an exciting opportunity to step into this team, where youth work is understood and the role within the Multi-Disciplinary team established.

To understand the day-to-day responsibilities in more detail please read the full job description document attached., In addition to being a part of the Renal team, the role will very much sit within the wider PEEER Youth service is a team which prides itself on being innovative, creative and inclusive, with a broad range of projects and activities to get involved in.
Health-based youth work is focused on ensuring the young person is central in their care pathways, ensuring that the other parts of a young persons life are considered and they are supported to work towards their priorities at their pace.
Clinical advocacy forms a large part of the role and attending clinical appointments with young people will be required.
In addition, the role will involve visiting young people in the community and supporting engagement in meaningful activities, exploring barriers within areas of their life that are important to them reaching their full potential and providing informal education on topics that they recognise are important.
A working day is varied, some youth work is delivered online and in the evening and weekends.
