Full Job Description

The youth worker role involves meeting children, young people and families in their homes, at educational establishments, training providers or at community venues and includes the planning and delivery of youth work programmes. Supported by your Manager and an Education Officer, you will be expected to identify barriers, find solutions and advocate for young people, so that schools can make suitable reasonable adjustments. The role involves having a knowledge of wider services to which you would signpost and refer to accordingly. All work undertaken must be regularly recorded on our database. You will be part of the staff team primarily covering the West of the county, and part of the wider Inclusion Service Team covering the whole county. Travel across the county is therefore necessary, along with a flexible approach as some out of hours working may be required This is a rewarding job delivering interventions with young people, supporting them to re-engage in education, empowering them for their future, and giving you a chance to be part of a dynamic team. Key Responsibilities Case Management: case manage children and young people who have been identified as requiring an intervention. This involves the post-holder undertaking assessments, planning interventions, undertaking interventions with individuals and families, reviewing the work undertaken and closing input at the appropriate time with a robust exit strategy. Contribute to developing innovative and positive work for groups of vulnerable children, young people and their families and carers. This includes building positive relationships with participants to support them to effectively engage in the programme delivered. Identify needs and find solutions: Identify unmet needs, barriers to progression and work with the young person and other agencies to find solutions. To adopt evidence-based practice in the work undertaken with young people. This includes empowering young people and their family members/carers to become more resilient and independent through a basic understanding of the whole family working approach. Liaison with other agencies: Signpost and refer to other appropriate agencies when wider needs have been identified. Organise and attend multiagency meetings: In addition to attending multiagency meetings (team around the school meetings) also engage in strategic meetings to support improved outcomes for young people To liaise and maintain contact with the professionals involved with a child, young person or family, including the effective sharing of relevant information pertaining to the progress of work or concerns. A DBS enhanced check for a regulated activity is required for this post. To apply for this post, you must have:

  • NVQ level 3 (or equivalent)
  • Significant experience of working with children, young people and families who are vulnerable or from a hard to reach group, in either case work or group work situations, supporting them to achieve educational related outcomes.
  • Experience of developing and delivering training and group work.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding legislation and an understanding of, and commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion
  • Excellent communication and engagement skills, good planning and organisational skills. Good IT skills including the ability to use word processing packages and database management systems, and an ability to work to deadlines.
  • Possession of a valid driving licence, access to a vehicle, and relevant insurances. However, reasonable adjustments will be considered for an applicant with a disability.
