Full Job Description

To lead on Aptitude Youth Work Youth Clubs/Hubs and Holiday sessions by co-ordinating and delivering a high-quality programme of engaging activities young people that are fun, safe, social and educational.

Youth Worker Team Leader Responsibilities:

· To be the lead worker at the Youth Clubs/Hubs/Holiday sessions in Radford/Foleshill/Wood End.

· To develop, deliver, facilitate high quality activities for young people.

· To organise the staffing rota for sessions and make arrangements for annual leave cover etc.

· To supervise young people and ensure general health & safety and rules of conduct.

· To write and review risk assessments for sessions.

· Build positive links with young people and promote active participation in activities such as planning and delivery of group work programmes on health, fitness, smoking, drugs, gangs, violence, relationships and bullying.

· To support some young people through a 1:1 mentoring process

· Excellent communication with staff, network contacts, casual staff, volunteers, managers and Directors.

· Managing and supervising staff, including lead team meetings.

· Organise the purchase of resources within the budget for effective young people's activities.

· Manage staff effectively by delivering regular line management 1:2:1's

· To take part in monthly supervision regarding work with a professional supervisor.

· Ensure that all duties are performed in line with corporate and legally obliging financial, safeguarding and other policy regulations.

· Update organisation social media pages regularly, post good news and communicate with young people

· Office based work at one of our delivery venues or main office location. There may be times when home working is required occasionally.

· To support innovation of new project development and contribute to grants.

· To act as deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead regarding the Safeguarding Children Policy and keep up to date and accurate records.

· To co-ordinate necessary programme set-up and clean-up, put away equipment, empty bins, cleaning.

· To undertake required record keeping procedures including leading team meetings, planning and evaluation of sessions by completing any relevant programme forms and monitoring records.

· Work in partnership with professionals from other organisations that support young people such as social care, health, police, education, youth offending teams, local authorities and voluntary sector.

  • Support staff development through coaching, role modelling, appraisal processes and all staff development activity.

  • Any other duties and responsibilities which may arise and correspond with the post.

  • · To participate in support/information meetings and one to one supervision meetings

    · Attend relevant training courses/workshops

    · Reports to Youth Sports & Mentoring Programme Lead

    · Responsible for youth work staff and project workers

    The post holder must comply with the Interagency procedures of the Safeguarding Boards policies for safeguarding children and is required: -
  • To ensure they are aware of the signs that may suggest a child or vulnerable adult is being abused or neglected

  • To report to the Designated Safeguarding Lead, their manager, or Director, any concerns they may have that suggest that a child or vulnerable adult may be being abused or neglected immediately


  • The post holder must comply with Aptitude Organisation CIC Health and safety policy and is required: -
  • To take reasonable care for their own health and safety at work and of those who may be affected by their actions or by their omissions

  • To cooperate with their line manager and senior management, to work safely, to comply with health and safety instructions and information and undertake appropriate health and safety training as required

  • Not to intentionally or recklessly interfere with or misuse anything provided in the interests of health, safety and welfare

  • To report to their manager any health and safety concerns, hazardous condition or defect in the health and safety arrangements.


  • This post is subject to full enhanced DBS Service Check.

    Educated to minimum Level 3 or A Levels in Youth Work, Sports, Counselling, Teaching, Social Care or other relevant profession.

    Educated to GCSEs Maths and English Grade A-C or Functional skills pass

    Safeguarding Young People Level 1 or higher

    Knowledge of local community, its voluntary organisations, and agencies

    Full and clean driving licence and has a car they can use for work

    Desirable:

    A minimum of 2 years' experience of supervising staff.

    Educated to diploma or degree level in relevant profession.

    First Aid qualification, Food Hygiene Certificate, Health & Safety Certificate.

    Qualification/experience in sport/music or art related areas.

    Experience

    Essential:

    Experience of dealing with a range of Issues facing young people from a variety of backgrounds

    At least 2 years' experience in leading projects and direct delivery of young people's projects

    Working with young people aged 8 - 25 from disadvantaged communities and at risk of becoming involved in crime.

    Experience of leading delivery of community-based youth activities for young people.

    Responding to safeguarding concerns and working within Safeguarding policies and procedures.

    Desirable:

    Demonstrable track record in developing people, processes and policy.

    Experience of Mentoring Young People

    Supporting young people who have SEND needs particularly ASD or ADHD.

    Skills & Abilities

    Essential:

    Confident to deliver 1:1 and groups of young people on various relevant topics.

    Develop programmes, lead, and support team delivery

    Able to work collaboratively with a wide range of people and organisations.

    Creative problem solving and decision-making skills.

    Demonstrable understanding of working with young people who are disadvantaged and passionate about making a difference to young people's lives.

    Excellent leadership and motivational skills, punctual and reliable.

    Able to manage and control budgets.

    Technology savvy use of Social media, Zoom, Word, Excel, online data management systems

    Exceptional personal integrity to act as an ambassador for the organisation, have a flexible and positive attitude.

    Ability to effectively organise, record and report data for youth work sessions

    Willingness to work flexibly in response to changing organisational requirements.

    Desirable:

    Creative and innovative approach to business planning and strategic development.

    Able to ride a bicycle and participate in community detached work,
  • A-Level or equivalent (required)


  • Experience:

  • Licence/Certification:
  • Full UK Driving Licence and car to use for work purposes (required)

    Days & Hours: 37 hours per week full time.


  • During term time hours will be Mondays to Thursday 12.40pm-8.30pm , Fridays 9.30am- 4.35pm, daily 20 minutes lunch break, school holidays this will be adjusted for holiday clubs/day trips which will means some days times will be approximately 9am-5pm instead.

    The post if the candidate would like includes a fully paid for 3-year degree 2024-2027 in JNC Youth & Community Work online course and 6 hour weekly paid study time

    Salary: £25-27k per year, annual increase by 1.8%

    Contract: Permanent

    Annual leave: 6 weeks paid holiday, (2 weeks are set end of August and Christmas week) plus 8 days Bank Holidays
