Full Job Description
Day-time clinical duties
The appointee will share responsibilities with a team of ward registrars and other respiratory trust fellows. Duties to be covered include the care of patients on Leopard (respiratory) and Kangaroo (long-term ventilation) Wards, involvement in CF and respiratory clinics. Specific duties will include clerking and follow-on care of children on Leopard Ward as well as outlying wards, attendance and presentation of cases at meetings and ward rounds, managing inpatient admission and administration of biologics, and the clerking of sleep study patients. The respiratory team provides a consult service to the other disciplines within the hospital and these patients need to be seen by the registrars and reviewed by a consultant. The trust fellow will also share with other team members in taking referrals from outside hospitals and dealing with telephone and email queries. When the appointee is working on Leopard Ward, they will be responsible for the supervision of the ward SHO/ST2-3.
The appointee will acquire skills in the management of Cystic Fibrosis, complex asthma, lung disease in children with complex medical conditions, non-invasive ventilation and abnormalities of sleep. He/she will become proficient in the interpretation of lung function, chest imaging and the interpretation of sleep studies.
These posts are designed for paediatric trainees who are already training in paediatric respiratory medicine; and doctors who have completed training and desire additional experience prior to a consultant post. We regret that trainees without PRM experience cannot be considered. Applicants must also have at least 2 years general paediatric experience, MRCPCH or equivalent; and ideally have either GMC registration and license to practice or to have passed the relevant English exam which is required as a precursor to this.
