DBS has recently undertaken a review of its operational locations in the North West, and have consolidated all activities in Norcross, Blackpool. A further move, to the new Government Hub at Talbot Gateway in Blackpool, is scheduled to take place in 2026.

This post is for an Administrative Officer position in Defence Business Services (DBS) Financial, Procurement & Civilian People Services (FPCP) Payroll Team. The Civilian Payroll teams contribute to the DBS vision by being highly committed to ensuring we provide timely, accurate and high quality customer service.
As a payroll Administrative Officer, you will be expected to respond to customer queries on their pay including but not limited to queries on policy, calculations, processes for claims, pension contributions and other payroll related queries.
Have quality customer service skills to ensure we respond sensitively, accurately and completely to fully answer customer enquiries
Have good attention to detail ensuring accuracy in entering data and also in protecting personal data
Good communication skills to be able to listen actively, have effective written and verbal communication skills
Have good organisational skills and to be able to work to deadlines
Protect personal data - ensuring GDPR compliance in documents and emails and ensuring MOD security protocols are followed
Undertake investigations into customer queries and to highlight any trends or recurring issues to line managers
Work with enthusiasm and collaboratively with good interpersonal skills and a team ethos.
Person specification
Applicants should be able to demonstrate experience of;
Ability to communicate effectively, build and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders and colleagues, able to demonstrate experience of working in a customer facing organisation and experience of using Microsoft office packages e.g. Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel.
Other desirable requirements include:
An understanding of payroll processes. An understanding of gross to net pay calculations and tax and NI deductions.
