Full Job Description
- Work as a member of a multi-disciplinary team providing services to young people involved in the criminal justice system and their families, with the purpose of preventing offending and promoting Restorative Justice approaches.
- To help deliver the practical reparative activities in line with national and local guidance with a specific victim focus.
- To deliver specific RJ work, including contacting and visiting victims, work with perpetrators and working closely with Police colleagues. Key Duties/Accountabilities (Sample):
- To help deliver the practical reparative activities. To work alongside the young people and monitor their behaviour whilst working in line with both national and local guidance.
- To work directly with young people undertaking restorative justice processes, as agreed by Reparation, Unpaid Work and Junior Attendance Centre Coordinator.
- To assist in working to prevent offending by children and young people.
- Supervise direct reparation.
- To offer the victims of young people who commit crime the opportunity to take part in restorative processes.
- To deliver victim awareness interventions.
- Contact and seek personal views from victims of crime.
- To attend Referral Order community panels on behalf or with victims to encourage and promote their views.
- Attend appointments with victims and young people, in their homes where required, in line with lone-working policies.
- The post holder reports to the JAC & Reparation Co-ordinator, Youth Offending Service.
- The post holder will be required to work: 36 hours each week, to be worked flexibly, including regular evening and weekend work.
- The post holder will be required to: Record all intervention contacts on the Youth Offending Service database or any other recording system as directed in line with local protocols., Work closely with members of other disciplines and organisations, including volunteers, residential staff, foster carers, youth workers, health, police, probation staff, housing, voluntary and independent organisations.
- Assist young people to develop and maintain social skills through individual and/or group-work programmes as directed by caseworker (some evenings)
- Assist victims of crime in expressing their views and feelings.
- Assist victims of crime in engaging with restorative processes, helping develop understanding of why RJ is important and how it can help both the victim and the perpetrator.
- Attend individual or group supervision to support you in your role and any other meetings identified.
- To deliver RJ workshops and RJ group work for both statutory and non-statutory Orders.
- Attend all training, supervision, case management meetings and team meetings as required.
Working with children and young people who offend and their families. - Restorative Justice Work or mediation within a criminal justice setting.
- Delivering group work programmes.
- In-depth experience of some form of either youth work or the supervision of offenders (through employment or voluntary).
- Ability to apply rules and comply with procedures and standards.
- Knowledge of the Youth Justice System, including Court processes.
- Familiarity with and ability to understand the legislative framework for Youth Justice.
- Working with young people in a voluntary or statutory setting.
- The understanding and use of relevant risk assessment protocols.
- To help deliver the practical reparative activities alongside young people whilst also monitoring their behaviour. To ensure that all work that it carried out is done so to a good standard.
- To help deliver positive and meaningful RJ sessions with young people who commit crime to reduce the likelihood of re-offending and de-escalate risk of harm.
- Comply with procedures and protocols that ensure the health, safety and welfare of young people and workers involved with the scheme. Ensuring that all incidents/accidents are reported to the Reparation and Junior
- Attendance Centre Coordinator and are provided in writing.
- Ensure children, young people and their parents or carers are notified of the time date and place that the child or young person is required to attend reparation and type of work being undertaken. This includes use of the texting service to remind children and young people of their reparation appointment.
