Full Job Description
Fixed term contract to cover maternity leave MPR-UPR, £25,320-£39,267 for 0.8 contract Inspire the Historians of Tomorrow! Are you passionate about bringing the past to life and inspiring the next generation of historians? Are you ready to inspire young minds with captivating stories, critical debates, and thought-provoking lessons? Ringwood School is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic History Teacher to join our thriving Humanities Department. This is a fantastic opportunity to make an impact, ignite curiosity, and help shape the next generation of historians, thinkers, and leaders! About the Role We are looking for a dynamic and innovative teacher who can engage students across Key Stages 4 and 5. The ideal candidate will have a strong subject knowledge and a commitment to delivering high-quality lessons that foster curiosity, critical thinking, and a love for history. What you'll be doing:
- Plan and deliver engaging and challenging history lessons that encourage curiosity and critical thinking.
- Inspire and motivate students to develop a deep understanding of historical events and themes.
- Exploring diverse historical perspectives and bringing history to life.
- Assess and monitor student progress, providing effective feedback, and helping them achieve their full potential.
- Contribute to the wider school community
- Maintain high expectations for student behaviour and academic achievement. What we're looking for:
- A degree in History or a related subject.
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
- A passion for history and the ability to bring it to life in the classroom.
- Strong communication and organisational skills.
- A commitment to continuous professional development. Why Join Us?
- A supportive and friendly teaching environment that values history and the humanities.
- Opportunities for professional growth and development.
- Excellent facilities and resources.
- A Chance to Make a Difference - Empower students with the knowledge and skills to think critically and shape the future! About us: Ringwood School is a large thriving oversubscribed 11-18 Comprehensive School situated in beautiful surroundings close to the New Forest and the Hampshire/Dorset coastline. We recognise the importance of creating a dynamic, innovative learning environment to support young people with their learning. The History department is a vibrant and lively place to work! There are currently 4 specialist historians. The departmental culture is student centred with very low behavioural incidents and high levels of rewards and achievement. Lessons are engaging and a variety of different learning activities are incorporated into our schemes of work. When you walk into a History lesson you will observe members of the department who are passionate about their subject and the progress of their students and in turn, students who are engaged, hardworking and enjoying the subject. The quality of learning is judged through a rigorous quality assurance programme including book looks and learning walks. We work as a collegial department, there is a constant buzz of professional conversation in the office and exceptionally strong collaboration on the planning of lessons and marking of students' work. This is an exciting time to join the department as we have recently rewritten our Key Stage Three curriculum with a focus on enquiry led units. We launched the new curriculum with year 7 and 8 over the past two years and have launched the curriculum to year 9. Within the planning of these schemes of work we have carefully considered the incorporation of disciplinary knowledge and substantive concepts and whilst addressing enquiry questions, our schemes of work still take a chronological approach to help ensure that students are secure in understanding time and period. A core principle of our curriculum intent is to ensure that students understand where they come from and how their experience may be different to that of others. We aim to encourage students to question and help them understand complexity of lives, diversity of societies and groups. The selection of content for our units and the focus of our enquiry questions is based around this intent. The team are friendly, mutually supportive, work together and with other teams across the school to produce an ethos and atmosphere which is conducive to learning. We recognise the importance of learning from each other to include sharing best practice both within and between schools. We are dedicated to continually pushing ourselves with new topics and resources, so we benefit from continuous learning. Our results at A-Level over time are good and our GCSE results are often excellent. We aspire to continue with these excellent results as a department and work closely with the team to ensure that students are always making good progress. If you're ready to bring history to life in a school that values passionate teaching, we'd love to hear from you! Closing date: 9am, 24 March 2025. Ringwood School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people, this role involves directly working with children and significant contact with children, and therefore we expect all staff and volunteers to share the same commitment. Please ensure a full work history is completed in your application form including any gaps of employment. Applicants will be required to complete satisfactory enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check for this post prior to commencement. Ringwood School is an equal opportunities employer. If successfully shortlisted the HR Department will also be conducting an individual online search including social media platforms of your 'education and employment', to demonstrate due diligence following 'Keeping Children Safe in Education' guidance. The search will not form part of the actual shortlisting process and any concerns arising from the search will be discussed directly with you.
