Job ref: cb5225a70b844f98b9b7c812caac1464
Full Job Description
We are seeking to employ an inspirational and forward-thinking Physics specialist to lead our thriving Physics Department. The appointment provides the opportunity to teach well-motivated, hard-working and high achieving pupils at KS 3, 4 and 5. All pupils study the main three sciences separately through to GCSE. Almost all pupils prepare for the higher tier papers. At A Level, the students follow the OCR Physics specification. In years 1 & 2 (NC years 7 & 8) Churcher's has developed its own Physics course which follows the requirements for Key Stage 3 but attempts to stretch our pupils further. This course is regularly reviewed and updated, and you would lead this process. Qualities and Experience Applicants should:
- Lead and inspire the Physics Department, fostering a culture of academic excellence and innovation whilst being an exemplary classroom practitioner.
- Develop and deliver an engaging and rigorous Physics curriculum across Key Stages 3 to 5, including GCSE and A-level.
- Oversee the planning, teaching, assessment, and progression of pupils, ensuring outstanding academic outcomes.
- Provide dynamic and supportive leadership to departmental staff, including mentoring and professional development.
- Ensure the effective use of practical work and laboratory resources to enhance learning.
- Monitor and analyse student performance data, using it to inform teaching and department strategy including tracking, reporting and parents' evenings.
- Contribute to the wider academic life of the school through enrichment activities, clubs, and competitions in STEAM.
- Work collaboratively with other Heads of Department and senior leaders to support whole-school initiatives.
- Uphold and promote the values and ethos of the school, fostering curiosity, independence, and a love of learning.
- Take an active role in the school's pastoral system and participate in events, open days, and wider corporate days. Closing date: 9am Monday 28 April 2025 Interviews: week commencing 5 May 2025 For further details, please contact Sarah Berry on recruitment@churcherscollege.com or visit our website. Churcher's College is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people. The successful applicant will be subject to a DBS check and references. The post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and the school is therefore permitted to ask job applicants to declare all convictions and cautions (including those which are "spent" unless they are "protected" under the DBS filtering rules) in order to assess their suitability to work with children.
