Full Job Description
Border Force is a law enforcement arm of the Home Office. We are responsible for handling the UK border control by implementing immigration and customs regulations and working with the wider Home Office on counter terrorism, organised crime, modern slavery and trafficking. Learn more on the Border Force careers page., We are looking for a communications manager with strong editorial and multimedia production skills to join the core Border Force Internal Communications Unit. This is a unique opportunity to shape and deliver impactful communications that connect 12,000 frontline officers protecting the UK's borders while working directly with senior leadership in a high-profile government department. The successful candidate will ideally be a communications professional with excellent writing, event and project management skills, and a track record of producing highly engaging content for a range of channels. As an Internal Communications Manager, you will support the timely and effective delivery of Border Force internal communications and engagement, and lead on the planning, production and management of our content and channels. The role requires occasional travel to a range of Border Force locations across the UK. You will -
- Provide all-round editorial, multi-media, and event support for priority internal communications and campaigns. Commissioning and creating high quality content for our online and offline channels and activities. This includes intranet news, bulletins, operational and line manager guides, posters, videos, polls, and a range of colleague events, preparing scripts and briefings for senior leaders and presenters.
- Oversee the day-to-day management of requests for internal communications support, triaging the internal communications mailbox and advising on the best approach to update, involve, and inform our colleagues.
- Maintain a Border Force wide internal communications planner to support the smooth, efficient, and timely delivery of priority internal communications, events, and campaigns, aligned to internal and external Home Office activity.
- Lead the ongoing insight and evaluation of our internal communications and engagement to help us continually improve our advice, plans and channels to ensure the needs of our colleagues.
- Build relationships with our internal communications networks, coordinating meetings, maintaining our network hub, and Teams channel to help colleagues connect and align on priorities.
- Act as a corporate brand and accessibility champion to maintain professional standards and ensure consistency across the organisation. The role reports directly to one of our Deputy Heads of Internal Communications and sits within the Border Force Director General's Office at the Home Office. Due to the business requirements of this role, it is only available on a full-time basis. However, job-share and compressed hours are available.
