Central to your role will be managing a team of Environment Agency Hydromets (HM) and early careers team members and leading on the development and delivery of the Flood Forecasting Centre's (FFC) Learning and Development (L&D) programme. Your responsibilities will include:
- Engage with and build relationships with team members across the FFC.
- Enable FFC team members to develop in their roles, ensuring they can develop in the best way for them and in line with business objectives. Identify knowledge and skills gaps in roles and recommend appropriate learning solutions.
- Own and lead on the implementation of the FFC's L&D programme and training.
- Work with Environment Agency (EA) and Met Office (MO) teams that co-ordinate Early Career Programmes to develop an FFC Graduate Scheme pathway.
- Line manage a team of EA Hydromets and early careers team members so that they are engaged, motivated and supported as they progress their careers at the FFC.
- Own and lead on the implementation of the FFC's Recruitment Plans.
- Engage with prospective candidates, ensuring they have a positive experience throughout the recruitment process.
- Perform administration tasks relevant to your role (e.g. schedule training events, prepare job adverts). You would also be expected to hold an incident role, the nature of which will be decided in discussion with your line manager once in post, which will most likely be to support the operational running of the FFC. The team Based in the MO headquarters in Exeter, the FFC is a partnership between the EA and the MO. The team provides 24/7 operational services and trusted guidance to allow Category 1 and 2 responders in England and Wales to plan and respond to flood incidents. The FFC is also at the forefront of national resilience, working to improve capability in flood forecasting
- Effective leadership skills demonstrated by successfully leading individuals/teams to work in collaboration to achieve objectives.
- Experience of line management and developing people, with a focus on ED&I and an understanding of working in an operational environment.
- Experience of supporting learning & development.
- Proven working knowledge of Health, Safety & Wellbeing.
- Experience of building and sustaining relationships within and across teams, and the ability to work with a range of customers and stakeholders, whether internal or external, to support our goals.
- Experience of managing large projects/programmes of work.
- Enthusiasm to achieve results and an ability to coach and mentor others to enhance their development.
- The skills to prioritise effectively for your team and the wider business.
- A flexible approach to work and a capacity to make decisions based on available information and evidence.
