Full Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Cardiology / General Medicine ward as a Sister / Charge Nurse. We are looking to appoint a forward thinking, motivated and dynamic senior nurse, who is passionate about providing high quality evidence-based care and making a difference in people's lives. Candidates should want to develop themselves as a Sister / Charge Nurse and hold an enthusiasm for service development and leadership. You will be required to take charge of the ward and provide effective leadership, expertise, advice and support, whilst ensuring a supportive, friendly and safe environment for both our patients and staff.

Ward 21 is a 28 bedded Cardiology & General Medicine ward. It is a busy and fast paced environment. You will be expected to work alongside the Lead Nurse in order to implement change and ensure delivery of the service is working efficiently and effectively. In order to be considered for this unique opportunity, candidates are required to ensure effective delivery of the band 6 role including leading and managing the team combined with the ability to support and guide individuals throughout their careers. The role also involves being able to coordinate and take charge on a daily basis, ensuring the team are working effectively together to provide exceptional patient care, whilst supporting the Lead Nurse and deputising in their absence., The responsibility of the post holder is to take a lead role in the co-ordination, planning, assessment and delivery of individual care needs provided by the multidisciplinary team, ensuring the effective leadership and management of the ward in the absence of the Lead Nurse.

The post holder will initiate and manage care of acute medical patients, following agreed protocols and guidelines.

The post holder will actively participate in any service development identified and initiated by the Trust or multidisciplinary team, under the guidance of the Lead Nurse.

The post holder is expected to lead a team of staff at band 5 and below and take a lead role in facilitating, educating, supervising supporting and developing both qualified and unqualified staff, within their sphere of responsibility.

The post holder will undertake professional development and further management skills under the guidance of the Lead Nurse. They will be expected to undertake aspects of the Lead Nurse role and deputise in their absence.

In conjunction with colleagues, the post holder will be responsible for the physical environment of the workplace. This will include health and safety issues, security and the appropriate safe management of equipment and resources allocated to the area.

The post holder will ensure that all nursing documentation is complete, up to date and in line with NMC and Trust guidelines.
