Full Job Description

We are seeking an enthusiastic, motivated and hardworking Administrative Assistant to join our team at the London North Genomic Laboratory Hub (GLH). Candidates should hold A-levels or an equivalent qualification. The post is office based and involves some weekend and bank holiday shifts.,

  • To undertake standard administrative duties on behalf of members of the Genetics Laboratories, as required, liaising with the Genetics Laboratory Management team, Director, Heads of Service, scientific, clinical, academic and administrative colleagues within the Department, Trust and ICH as necessary
  • To ensure that patient information from request forms for those samples entered into information management systems is accurate and complete, using Trust and NHS information systems and contacting referring clinicians where required.
  • Deal with telephone enquiries from patients and professionals in a polite, courteous, helpful and confidential manner using the multiline telephone system
  • Resolve and respond to queries on behalf of the service where appropriate. To field and forward calls as necessary.
  • Use the Great Ormond Street hospital electronic patient record system (EPIC) to obtain relevant patient details
  • Amend entries on samples received by the laboratory in the information management systems as appropriate, including amendment of confidential clinical findings on the patients
  • Issue and record the issue of new versions of controlled laboratory documents. Collect the old versions of these documents
  • Be able to work under pressure and maintain a high level of attention to detail at all times to ensure delivery of the service in a diagnostic patient-centred working environment.

    This is an exciting time to join the London North GLH as the hub is currently going through period of mobilisation. The GLH has an establishment of approximately 120 staff. Along with two Clinical Genetics teams we form a strategic Genetics Unit within the hospital and provide North London with a Regional Genetics Service serving a population of approximately 10 million.
  • The genetics laboratory provides an in-house diagnostic service for molecular and cytogenetic testing as well as national and international services for non-invasive prenatal diagnosis, deafness, craniofacial, metabolic and immune deficiency disorders.North Thames Genomic Laboratory Hub - Bringing genomic research and testing together (norththamesglh.nhs.uk) We are involved in a number of collaborative research and development projects with colleagues at the UCL Institute of Child Health and Institute of Neurology.
