Full Job Description

We have the opportunity for an experienced, enthusiastic and motivated Pharmacist to join our workforce. This post offers the opportunity to further develop clinical skills across a wide range of specialties within the Woman and Child area. These include general paediatrics, paediatric oncology, paediatric rheumatology, paediatric high-dependency, neonatal intensive care, antenatal and postnatal obstetrics, gynaecology and breast care. The role is predominantly ward-based, working with the Principal Pharmacist to lead and develop clinical services as part of a small well-established Pharmacy team, working closely with patients, medical, nursing and midwifery staff. You will also be involved in the development of guidelines, policies, PGDs and formulary reviews, ensuring appropriate use of high-cost drugs, training of pharmacy staff rotating through the area and training of nursing, midwifery and medical staff. The hospital benefits from a busy emergency centre, haematology/oncology department, critical/intensive care unit and an innovative cardiology ward. We also have a high level of commitment to staff development and actively encourage all staff to share their expertise to enhance the performance of the department.Main duties of the job Take professional responsibility for the provision of a comprehensive clinical pharmacy service to Women's and Children's (W&C) Services wards to ensure the accuracy, legality, safety and efficacy of medicine use through the appropriate planning and allocation of work. Be actively involved in consultant and MDT ward rounds to deliver evidence-based advice/guidance on medications to ensure their safe and effective use Take responsibility for the development and review of policies, procedures and guidelines for medicine use within W&C Services. Work effectively with the Clinical Business Unit leads to provide information on cost-effective medicine use and support the development and submission of formulary applications or amendments to the use of existing products. Be responsible for developing and delivering comprehensive training and education on medicine issues within W&C Services to members of the pharmacy service and the wider MDT. Be responsible for providing specialist pharmacy support to the full range of specialist W&C Services including e.g. Gynaecology/Obstetric clinics, delivery suite, Paediatric outpatient clinics as well as inpatient ward areas, ensuring that their service goals can be effectively supported by medicine policy and procedures. Engage Women's and Children's Services clinical colleagues in regular audit, reporting and review of medicines prescribing, administration and record keeping in-line with local and national audit plans.
