Assistant Chef

As an Assistant Chef for Sodexo at Q3 Academy, Moat Road, Langley, Birmingham, B68 8ED, you will oversee all aspects of the food and beverage operations. You will be responsible for ensuring that the food and level of service are of the highest calibre and that the school catering is among the best in the region. Your attitude will influence your team's daily lives as the person they go to for direction and support, which will in turn foster a vibrant and productive work environment. • Manage the replenishment of food and the dismantling of work areas at the end of service.
• Develop, mentor, conduct training, and inspire the kitchen team.
• Control the complete catering operation, including labour, food, and stock expenses.
• Maintain excellent standards of food
• Prepare all food with due care and attention, particularly regarding customers' special dietary requirements: allergies, food intolerances and religious or other considerations.
• Work on and support any special functions which may sometimes be outside of normal working hours at evenings and weekends and promotions in line with segment marketing and promotional calendar
• Training:
+ Involvement in preparation and delivery of inhouse training programmes + Participate in relevant training courses and apprenticeship programmes


• Patient with good interpersonal skills and the ability to build quality relationships with colleagues and clients while respecting boundaries
• Excellent time management and organizational skills
• Good communication skills & customer focused
• Self-motivated, hard working and able to have a flexible approach to the role
• Ability to work inclusively as part of a team or individually as needed
• Ability to work well under pressure and maintain personal resilience in all situations
• Highly motivated, passionate about food with a desire to develop and grow
• Recognised professional qualifications in cookery or suitable experience
• Holds current food hygiene certificates
• Craft skills and experience in relevant establishments
• Have experience following recipes, possibly in a similar setting.
• Have experience working with fresh produce and ingredients.
• Be aware of the importance of adhering to health and safety procedures.
• Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines in a busy Kitchen environment.
• Be professional, leading by example and having a positive outlook is key.
• Hold basic food handling skills certification:
+ Level 2 of 3 qualification + Level 2 Food safety Certificate + A minimum of 1 years of experience in hands on cooking, training on Food Hygiene, and Health & Safety will be given.
