We are delighted to advertise a 2-year fixed term vacancy for a Macmillan Assistant Psychologist for cancer patients at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital. This role will be supporting a newly appointed Clinical Psychologist develop a new psychology service for people affected by cancer. Your employment will be hosted at NNUH where you would join the existing Clinical Psychology team, which is a small team working within several areas of adult and paediatric health psychology. You will be line managed by a Macmillan Clinical Psychologist within the Oncology directorate, supported by the wider Oncology teams. We are recruiting across the region in each of the 3 Trusts, Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, Queen Elizabeth University Hospital and James Paget University Hospital, as part of a collaborative approach to ensure equity of access for our cancer patients. Applicants must be eligible for Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership (GBC) with the British Psychological Society (BPS). Please see 'Confirming eligibility for GBC' attachment, which outlines what documents can be used to confirm eligibility for GBC., The main objective of this post is to support the development and provision of a new clinical psychology service within oncology.The successful candidate will be responsible for (with appropriate clinical support) involvement in the initial development of the service, screening referrals that come into the service, managing our patient database and outcomes for the service, working with the service lead to audit and evaluate service processes to ensure high quality care across patients' cancer journey. Key responsibilities will include:

  • Involvement in meetings in which service development is planned and discussed.
  • Assisting in the design and implementation of service development projects as required.
  • Assisting in audit and service evaluation- collating, analysing and disseminating outcome data using qualitative and quantitative methods.
  • Contributing to training and support of staff in psychological care
  • Assisting the qualified psychologist in teaching as required.
  • Supporting the development and delivery of psychologically informed interventions through therapeutic groups for patients with cancer and their carers and, as appropriate, holding a small (supervised) clinical caseload.
  • To contribute, as appropriate, to multi-disciplinary meetings within oncology services and psychology departmental meetings
  • To work collaboratively across the region with Queen Elizabeth University Hospital and James Paget University Hospital, to ensure equity of access for our cancer patients.
