Full Job Description

To assist in the provision of a high quality histopathology research support service to the renal tumour clinical and translational research group that spans GOSH/UCLGOSICH and leads the UK part of the international biomarker evaluation study, UMBRELLA, a SIOP Renal Tumours Study Group prospective clinical study. The chief investigator for the overall study is Dr Tanzina Chowdhury. Professor Neil J. Sebire and other members of the GOSH histopathology department are active supporters and collaborators in the associated biomarker and biological research studies. To assist in the curation, processing and research analyses performed on tissue samples received both internally from GOSH patients (mainly fresh samples direct from theatre and blood samples taken during treatment) and from external collaborating centres across the UK and overseas (frozen and FFPE samples). The research sample handling work is undertaken in close integration with the clinical service sample handling, within the
GOSH Histopathology Department, + To take responsibility for receiving, processing and organising specimens pertaining to the UMBRELLA study
+ To work with other histopathology research staff in the Cancer section
+ To carry out all sample preparation and nucleic acid quality assessments for molecular investigations related to the UMBRELLA study and to liaise with collaborators in the UK and abroad
+ To carry out all laboratory investigations to a high standard of technical excellence
+ To assist the clinical staff with translational research specimen dissection and sample selection related to the UMBRELLA study on a routine basis, and other studies as require
+ To take responsibility for the quality and accuracy of results produced
+ To assist Senior research staff in writing and developing standard operating procedures and other documentation as required
+ To plan and take responsibility for the efficient and effective organisation of own work
