The British Council is seeking to appoint an experienced and exceptional leader as Chair of our Arts and Creative Economy Advisory Group, to succeed David Bryan, CBE.
  • The Arts and Creative Economy Advisory Group advises the Arts leadership team and influences the British Council's vision and strategy. Arts is a cornerstone of the British Council's purpose to build connections, understanding and trust between people in the UK and other countries. We find new ways of connecting with and understanding each other through the arts, to develop stronger creative sectors around the world that are better connected with the UK. Our work in Arts builds connections with the diverse cultural riches of the UK, creates new opportunities and inspiration for artists around the world and the fostering of new collaborations with their British counterparts. It strengthens perceptions of a modern, vibrant and creative UK among millions of people - particularly young people - in fast-growing economies, encouraging more trade, investment and tourism. It also helps to bring together divided communities and provides creative ways of responding to global challenges by protecting heritage, human rights, and a sustainable environment. The British Council is a registered charity incorporated and governed by a Royal Charter. It is led by a Board of Trustees that is accountable to the UK's Charity Commission for its activities. There are three Sector Advisory Groups - for Arts and Creative Economy, Education, and English Language. The advisory groups provide advice to the British Council's Senior Leadership Team. Their formation or disbandment are the Chief Executive's responsibility. The groups' functions are solely advisory. They have no decision-making or executive powers. The group's papers and minutes are shared across the Senior Leadership Team and British Council's Board of Trustees.
