Full Job Description

If you have an interest in practical hands-on laboratory work, this could be the ideal opportunity for you! Supporting our friendly Engine oils team, you will predominantly be responsible for blending components with oils, preparing samples for testing, maintaining inventory and housekeeping., 1. Participate in safety related activities and maintain an up-to-date understanding of company, industry and government safety procedures and regulations. 2. Preparation of components, additive packages & lubricant formulations for internal / external testing and supply to customers in line with project objectives and timings. Arranging of internal testing and in collaboration with group Technical Admin arrange external testing & dispatch. 3. Complete preliminary analysis and interpretation of test results. Prepare reports, memos, presentations, etc., and/or enter into database(s), to communicate results to appropriate parties. Handle requests and report results in agreed upon timelines. 4. Operate specialized test equipment in accordance with established procedure. Perform tests accurately to insure reproducibility. Assume responsibilities for the maintenance and trouble shooting of the laboratory equipment and/or instrumentation necessary to perform the laboratory tests. Perform industry and Afton specific laboratory tests using established procedures. 5. Set up, run & monitor storage stability / compatibility studies on both additives and oil formulations. Observe and interpret results, reporting findings to appropriate parties via verbal, written, electronic and photographic communications. 6. Manage selected Mini Technical Service Report programs from initiation to completion in a timely fashion. Dependent on experience and level. 7. Purchase, maintain, and/or obtain adequate inventory of samples and lab supplies for testing and work area. Maintain work area in a neat, clean, and safe condition by implementing 5S principles. 8. Maintain adequate level of specific as well as general technical expertise through training, seminars, etc., at the direction of management to support required activity. 9. May perform non-standardized laboratory procedures independently and/or with guidance of experienced personnel. 10. May represent Afton with customers, industry organizations at the direction of management and may train other personnel as necessary. 11. Assure that complete ISO documentation is maintained on all ISO or quality related activities. Participate in ISO related activities and maintain an up-to-date understanding of the ISO function.

As the ideal candidate, you will have some laboratory experience and be comfortable working with minimum supervision. As well as being a collaborative and supportive team member, you will thrive on being hands-on in the lab and have a practical and methodical approach to problem solving. A higher qualification in chemistry and previous experience lab experience is preferred but not essential.,

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Demonstrated lab and/or chemistry training, experience or aptitude
  • Associate or Bachelor Degree
