Full Job Description
To help ensure that all national audits relevant to the service are discussed within six months of report publication and a documented action plan with identified accountable individuals, clear objectives and outcome metrics is put in place. To ensure that within each clinical area, effective systems and processes are established to enable the delivery of the clinical governance agenda and quality assurance protocols. To attend a regular multi-professional Quality and Safety meeting to review complaints, serious incidents, risks, and good practice in order to ensure that a documented plan of action in response to each is in place. The plan should include delegated individual responsibility, clear outcome metrics and timelines., Leadership and improving the workforce To provide visionary leadership to the specialty medical workforce and senior clinical leaders. To assist the Clinical Director in supporting medical workforce development, contribution to service excellence and efficiency, good patient experience and professionalism To assist the Clinical Director in providing senior clinical leadership with respect to quality, governance and improvement throughout the specialty. To provide a clear sense of direction for the service area expressed in a clinical strategy which is aligned to site and Clinical Board strategic direction and priorities. To promote personal accountability at all levels, inspiring all staff to strive for continuous improvements in the services provided.
- MB BS, or equivalent
- MRCP or equivalent
- Higher degree, e.g. MD/PhD or evidence of working towards it
- CCST (or within 6 months of date of interview)
- Entry on the General Medical Council (GMC) Desirable
- Management Qualification Experience Essential
- Worked clinically at a senior level
- Experience of leadership and management
- Experience of clinical governance and of the measures to ensure patient safety
- A record of partnership working Track record of managing and developing staff
- Track record of addressing poor performance Desirable
- Track record of achieving financial targets
- Establishing and sustaining effective strategic direction
- Track record of innovation Knowledge Essential
- Registration with relevant professional body
- Postgraduate qualifications
- Employed substantively in clinical practice within Barts Health NHS Trust
- Evidence of continuing professional development
- A good understanding of the current context of health and social care, and of clinical learning and research
- A good understanding of the specific issues in East London relevant to health and social care
- A broad understanding of the systems for primary care, social care and commissioning
- Knowledge of the Trust priorities Desirable
- Demonstrates a commitment to the highest ethical and professional values and a belief in government funded healthcare Skills Essential
- Demonstrable leadership skills
- Able to think and act strategically and to articulate a clear vision and sense of direction

The post will be appointed to the Barts Heart Centre, based at St Bartholomew's Hospital, Barts Health NHS Trust. The merger of three cardiac services into the new cardiovascular centre creates a new world-class institution that will provide state of the art cardiovascular care to a population of six million people.
