Full Job Description

We are currently looking to expand our clinical workforce.We are seeking applications from clinicians with a minimum of 6 monthspsychiatry experience or experience in delivering mental health care in aprimary care setting, and / or with experience of managing addiction. We areasking for a minimum commitment of 16 hours per week. As a key member of the NHS PH team, you will provide care to PH patients,participating as a core team member carrying out triage for new contacts andreferrals, assessments of new patients, ongoing case management and liaisonwith other providers who might be involved in the care of the patients. Youwill be responsible for managing a caseload of sick health professionals,assessing risk and providing holistic support to manage their programme ofcare. You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team which includes GPs,specialist nurses, psychiatrists, and therapists. The NHS PractitionerHealth will support retaining practitioners as part of the NHS England plan toretain a healthy and resilient workforce, in addition to supportingpractitioners who wish to return to clinical practice after a period of illhealth. The service will provide online andtelephone support and offers a hybrid approach for staff to be seen for face toface / virtual assessment, treatment, therapeutic interventions, and ongoing casemanagement. Each region has a Clinical Lead with a responsibility to act as alocal champion and with a network of clinicians and therapists delivering careand support across the geographical area. PH practitioner patients will come from differentgender, age and ethnicity groups. Around80% of patients accessing PH are expected to have a mental health concern,around 20% to have issues that relate to substance misuse. In our experiencethis balance will change as the service develops. A proportion of our patientswill be involved in regulatory processes, although we will offer support to help resolve issues before apatient safety incident or complaint has occurred.

  • Registered with the GMC; hold a license to practice (ideally in current clinical practice)
  • MRCGP or MRCPsych or RMN + HHP or equivalent
  • Desirable
  • Part 1& 2 RCGP Certificate in Substance Misuse or equivalent
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Evidence of postgraduate study in substance misuse
  • Part 2 RCGP Certificate in Substance Misuse or equivalent such as other specialist psychiatric experience in a related field eating disorders
  • Experience Essential
  • Minimum 5 years post qualification experience in managing mental health
  • Significant experience of working in mental health and / or addiction
  • Empathy and an understanding of distressed health and care proffesionals many of whom will have been reluctant to contact the service
  • Experience of producing reports, assessments and presentations involving highly complex information.
  • Experience of providing, receiving and processing sensitive or contentious information and communicating this effectively.
  • Experience of building and developing effective working relationships and networking with senior professionals

  • Personal clinical supervision

    NHS Practitioner Health is a National(England wide) service for doctors, dentists and health and care staff withmental health and addiction issues which may be affecting their ability to worksafely and effectively or return to work.
