Full Job Description
Required to fill this 6PA replacement post within the Paediatric Oncology & Haematology Department at the Leeds General Infirmary. The post holder will provide, with consultant and multi-disciplinary colleagues in the paediatric haematology and oncology team, an emergency and elective regional service for children with cancer and malignant haematological disorders. The post holder will take responsibility for Leading and developing the Long-Term Follow-up service for children with cancer. The successful applicant should hold MB ChB (or equivalent) and should be included on the Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT at the time of interview, if currently within a training programme within the UK. In accordance with the consultant appointment regulations, all other categories of doctors must be on the Specialist Register., Other duties of this role will include: on-call responsibility with 7 other consultants in the paediatric haematology and oncology team. Providing advice and support to the other paediatric specialists in the Childrens Hospital, and to paediatricians caring for children in other hospitals who refer to Leeds. Participating in the multi-professional paediatric clinical governance programmes, and clinical management meetings. Participating in education, supervision, and training of junior medical staff. Participate in the active departmental research programme and/or develop appropriate research interests that will benefit the service. INTERVIEWS WILL BE HELD VIA MS TEAMS: 19 February 2025, In relation to this post, the successful applicant will join Dr Sue Picton, Prof Sally Kinsey, Dr Michael Richards, Dr Beki James, Dr Martin Elliot, Dr Bob Phillips, Dr Simone Wilkins, Prof Adam Glaser, Dr Danielle Ingham, Dr Jacob Grinfeld, Dr Amy Ruffle, Dr Chris Letherby, and Dr Melpomeni Rompola in providing tertiary paediatric oncology and haematology service for Leeds and the majority of Yorkshire. The Leeds Paediatric Oncology and Haematology clinical team also comprises of three specialty doctors, one senior trust doctor, three advanced nurse practitioners and junior doctors on rotation: two ST 5-8/equivalent, three ST 2-3. The team is highly motivated and committed to developing excellent services for patients, and the expectations of all members of the multi-disciplinary team are high.
Applicants should have established skills in Paediatric Oncology and its related specialties including Late Effects of Cancer. A strong commitment to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and a research interest is desirable.,
- MB ChB or equivalent qualification.
- Eligible for full registration with the GMC at time of appointment and hold a current licence to practice.
- YOUR GMC NUMBER MUST BE STATED ON YOUR APPLICATION FOR IT TO BE CONSIDERED.
- Eligibility to work in the UK.
- Is up to date and fit to practise safely. Desirable
- Relevant higher degree., Must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in Paediatric Oncology.
- Valid Level 3 Safeguarding Training.
- Valid BLS Training.
- Evidence of continuous career progression consistent with personal circumstances. Desirable
- Higher specialist training in Paediatric Oncology.
- Valid APLS and NLS (this may be mandatory for some posts). Management, Interpersonal Skills & Other Requirements Essential
- Understanding of current issues in the NHS.
- Well organised and skilled in good time management.
- Effective interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrate ability to relate to and work within a team.
- -Hold full GMC Registration with a license to practice.
- -Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via:
- -CCT (proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview) CESR (or) international applicants should comply with the GMC specialty registration process. CESR applicants must be on the relevant Specialist Register at the time of application. Desirable
- Attendance at recognised management course., Should have completed a recognised training programme in Paediatric Oncology.
- Evidence of the ability to carry out medical research.
- Experience in training undergraduate medical students and postgraduate doctors.
- Experience of participation in regular clinical audit. Desirable
- Previous experience of supervising research by junior staff.
- Previous attendance on Appraisal Techniques and Small Group Teaching Workshops.
