Full Job Description

  • Shape the BBC's policy plan over the next 5 years including jointly leading the Charter Review process for the BBC with your counterpart in Strategy
  • Lead the work of the Policy team on other UK and international public policy matters.
  • Develop and recommend policy positions on complex policy issues working across the BBC and with key external stakeholders.
  • Champion the BBC as a key public sector broadcasting player in the UK and internationally - especially with Government and Parliamentarians.
  • Keeping abreast of the latest developments in the media sector and shaping policy and the BBC's response accordingly.
  • Represent the BBC with regulators, government departments, and industry stakeholders.
  • Represent the BBC with key external stakeholders in partnership with other teams across BBC Corporate Affairs.
  • Line management responsibility for a small policy team with an ability to manage and lead virtual teams across the organisation to deliver policy outcomes and BBC objectives.

    Senior level experience in leading policy development in Government, major organisation or professional consultancy.
  • Direct experience of working with Government, ideally advising Ministers
    • on key policy issues with a proven track record of delivery for major projects.
  • Ability to represent effectively the BBC at senior levels including the BBC Board and with senior Government and industry stakeholders.
  • A proven track record of leading and advising on complex policy and strategy projects to deliver organisational objectives, economic impacts and quantified benefits realisation.
  • Demonstrate understanding and delivery of diversity objectives.
  • Project management and delivery at a senior level as a Senior Responsible Owner or Programme Director.

  • Strong experience of delivering against legal, economic and regulatory requirements.
  • Horizon scanning ability in the context of shaping policy reform agenda.

    • In this role, you will guide our UK Policy Team on critical public policy matters, and advise the BBC's ExCo and Board about how to create a policy environment in which the BBC can achieve its strategic objectives.,. As a key representative to government departments, parliamentarians, and industry stakeholders, you will be a trusted voice advocating for the BBC and influencing decisions that shape the future of the sector. To succeed, you will bring significant senior-level experience in leading policy development, whether in government, a major organisation, or a professional consultancy. You will also have a proven track record of managing complex policy and strategy projects, providing sound advice, and delivering results that align with organisational objectives. You will be an experienced senior leader - who has worked at the highest levels in a major organisation, and got a track record of influencing at Board and/ or ministerial level.
