Full Job Description

The Credit Controller will be responsible for maximising cash receipts and for reducing unallocated cash balances and bad debt write offs for the Before the Event, After the Event and Non-insurance premium portfolios. The job holder will possess the ability to communicate and negotiate effectively, building relationships externally with key Brokers, Insurers and Lawyers and internally with Finance, Sales and Underwriting Departments. The role requires implementation of professional debt monitoring techniques, credit control processes and reconciliation of the sales ledger. The job holder will have the opportunity to be involved in debt measurement, unallocated cash and cash flow reporting & planning. The Credit Controller will reconcile larger and more complex accounts. The job holder will assist with the making of payments for commission and refunds. The job holder will contribute to regular and ad hoc reports concerning credit control function. The Credit Controller will assist more junior finance staff and provide a flexible approach that increases their exposure to finance practices and maximises their learning experience. The Credit Controller will assist with specification, testing and implementation of improved software developmentsYour tasks

  • Customer Service Proactive in approaching both external and internal customers in respect of financial information and processes, in respect of late payment including resolving any issues that arise and responding to queries
  • Finance Journals and Ledgers Post the journals and maintain the general ledgers in respect of sales, refunds. commissions and cash received.
  • Reconciliation Undertake the reconciliation of the balances & accounts under your control & propose remedy for any discrepancies.
  • Reporting Assist in the collection, population & analysis of financial reporting data adding appropriate narrative as necessary.
  • Work Flow Management Plan & prioritise own work to meet internal customer/project requirements.
  • Support Provide ongoing support to Level A1 roles but without line management responsibility. Take part in ad-hoc projects.
  • Compliance Carry out all tasks in line with stipulated processes, procedures & authority limits.
  • Learning and Development Take responsibility for own learning needs & objectives. Work closely with colleagues to progress knowledge & skills base.

    Good level of education (min. 3 A Levels Grade C+ in relevant subjects) and qualified to at least AAT level 2. Good working knowledge of MS Office/0365 applications. Good numeracy & literacy skills Experienced in customer facing roles including debt chasing or complaints Graduate in a relevant subject Working towards a professional qualification Experienced in customer-facing roles including customers and complaints face to face 2 years Credit Control or Accountancy experience
