Job Summary

The primary function of the Site Operations Manager is to help manage the day-to-day operations of a live data centre facility. The SOM will be part of an Operational Management Team based at the facility. The job role will ensure that all Electrical, Mechanical, Life Safety and Security infrastructure systems are kept running effectively & safely across the whole facility, and this task will be achieved by ensuring all data centre infrastructure is maintained and operated in accordance with Colt DCS operational standards. The SOM will also play a big part in ensuring that we deliver a comprehensive service to all of our customers. At times the SOM will engage directly with our customers, dealing with queries, new and existing projects and generally assisting them with their business needs in line with our vision to be the most trusted and customer centric data centre operator.

Job Description

The successful candidate will need to have experience of working as a technician or technical supervisor of a data centre. They will have experience of managing specialist contractors in data centre operational environments. It is essential the candidate has a solid technical understanding of electrical, mechanical, Life Safety and security systems and be fully conversant with Permit-To-Work safe systems of working. They must also be able to demonstrate a good working knowledge of Health & Safety in the workplace. Applicants are expected to be self-motivated, self-organized and have the ability to manage high work volumes effectively and safely.

Responsibilities:

Review and approval change control documentation
Support internal and customer health & safety audits
Help support customer visits and attend customer audits, when required
Action any reactive break-fix works when infrastructure equipment fails
Constantly ensure that work activities across the facility are being delivered safely
Attend operational planning meetings with incumbent maintenance provider to review and schedule various work activities
Organise and chair healthy & safety meetings with the local onsite operational teams
Action any health and safety goal observations raised by our customers, contractors and/or Colt DCS staff
Help support any end-of-life Operations infrastructure project works
Source technical data for any customer or internal reporting
Proactively drive forward the onsite Zero Waste To Landfill initiative
Regularly review the operational parameters across the facility using the BMS and suggest changes to system setpoints to optimize the effective running of systems across the data centre facility
Raise accident and incident notifications using the Colt DCS reporting platform
Supporting the resolution of operational incidents (this may involve working outside of normal working hours)
Support ongoing renewals of all operational, security, health and safety and environmental accreditations
Drive continuous improvement across all aspects of what we manage in Operations
Actively support all initiatives associated with our ESG strategy, which focuses on decarbonising and safeguarding our company whilst connecting people

Skills & Experience:

Experience of working as a technician or technical supervisor of a data centre.
Experience of managing specialist contractors in data centre operational environments
Solid technical understanding of electrical, mechanical, Life Safety and security systems
Fully conversant with Permit-To-Work safe systems of working
Demonstrate a good working knowledge of Health & Safety in the workplace
Ability to manage high work volumes effectively and safely
Technical professional qualification in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, i.e. City in Guilds, ONC, HNC, or degree, or equivalent level of job experience
Extensive knowledge of electrical safe systems of work, experience issuing work permits and have successfully achieved the technical level of Authorised Person (preferable AP5, or AP15)
Fluent in English (written and spoken) and have a full driving license
