Full Job Description

This Decisions Scientist will report to the Analytics and Dev Ops Lead and will work within the Information Systems directorate based in our London office. You will be a permanent employee., Our Analytics team is an important part of UK Power Networks, collaborating with all directorates to lead data-related innovations. We are embedded within the teams, working hand-in-hand to understand their visions, align on project scopes, and develop relevant insights and tools. Our role extends beyond delivery as we also focus on maintaining and enhancing the infrastructure that supports our analytics projects. We are NOT a traditional analytics team. Most people see us as an internal consulting team or an analytics start-up. We are close knit, supportive, dynamic, work in agile ways, big on feedback and motivated to constantly improve and do better. Our mandate is to be a supportive, challenging friend to the business, thinking creatively, to bring new approaches, methods and ways of thinking to some of the industry's biggest problems. We are encouraged to improve, with our primary aims consisting of quantifying the scale of an improvement should the recommended actions be undertaken, and to support the business for implementing those recommendations.,

  • Build trust and collaborate with other teams: Work with multiple directorates to understand their goals, challenges, and analytics needs. Agree on the vision and scope of analytics projects to provide tailored solutions. Get involved in the upskilling of other teams with less experiences with data analytics
  • Develop Insights and Tools: Create advanced analytical models and tools to extract actionable insights from complex datasets. Ensure these solutions are practical, scalable, and aligned with our goals. Main tools for delivery are Databricks (insights) and Plotly Dash (apps), and we work mainly in Python.
  • Maintain Infrastructure: Oversee the ongoing maintenance and enhancement of analytics infrastructure to ensure reliable performance and continuous improvement of our tools and systems.
  • Drive Impact: Contribute to important projects such as:
  • Accelerating LCT Connections: Provide data-driven insights to streamline processes and facilitate quicker connections of low carbon technologies, supporting our Net Zero commitments.
  • Optimizing Asset Investments: Use analytics to strategize and plan asset investments, reducing customer downtime, and enhancing the reliability of our supply.
  • Improving Response Times: Develop models and tools to enhance our first response to power outages, minimizing the duration and impact on customers.

    Experience
  • You will have a background in data science and analytics, in utilities or non-utilities discipline
  • Project experience in Python is necessary
  • Experience with R, SQL, pyspark, Databricks, Plotly Dash, and PowerBI is an advantage but not essential
  • Experience in strategic thinking and synthesising analytical outputs for business actions, such as from working with senior leaders or from management consulting
  • Experience collaborating with diverse teams translating data insights into relevant recommendations
  • Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or above in STEM

    You will attract a salary of £65,000.00 and a bonus of 7.5%. This role can also offer blended working after probationary period (6 months) - 3 days in the office and 2 remote Close Date: 17/11/2024 We also provide the following additional benefits
