Full Job Description

Medallic recognition is of national importance, as there is significant honour in receiving such an award in recognition of service to King and country. The MOD Medal Office team play a vital role in the UK Honours system and maintaining the morale component of the UK Armed Forces and Armed Forces Covenant by ensuring that Service personnel, veterans and their families receive their duly earned medals and awards, dating from WW1 to present day.

Responsible for the day to day operations within one of the medals assessment teams ensuring that all applications for medals ranging from World War 1 to present day (depending on team) are processed, assessed and despatched in accordance with approved criteria and delivered within appropriate timescales to Serving Personnel, Veterans and their Next of Kin.

Line Manager to 6 x AO Medal Assessors., Provide clear and sensitive leadership to maintain morale and the line management of the Assessment team, in addition to supporting colleagues in accordance with Departmental best practice (e.g. ensuring their wellbeing, safety and development needs are met (incl.mandatory learning), plus management of annual leave and case work management.
To proactively manage and directly support the accurate and timely assessment of medal requests and applications, including sample checks of casework to ensure compliance with qualification criteria.
To conduct assessments alongside assessment teams to validate entitlement, responding to approvals, rejections and appeals where appropriate within Performance Indicators and Service Level Agreements.
To provide input to Ministerial Correspondence, Parliamentary Questions, customer queries/appeals and complaints, whilst.ensuring they are dealt with effectively and within the appropriate legislative or department directed time frames.
Monitor performance and act accordingly to improve performance or accuracy issues within the team.
To review and contribute to resolving policy discrepancies or the development of new policy, as the administrative SME for Armed Forces Medallic Recognition
Actively manage and review compliance with MOD Policies, focused around security, data protection and records management (DPA 18/GDPR, JSP 440, Record Retention, etc.).
Proactively review training and supporting material to ensure operational effectiveness.
Promote and reaffirm a Continuous Improvement and Change Management culture to underpin operational delivery.
Support the completion of ad hoc activity required to support MOD policy compliance within the remit of the grade, or for development opportunities

Essential

A good understanding of IT as applications are processed through networked PC's using bespoke databases and MS/Oracle based software packages.
Knowledge of MS - excel and word
Desirable:
