Full Job Description

Neuroscience is a busy specialty that covers Stroke and Neurology patients, we have 2 inpatient wards - Heydon - Hyper Acute stroke Unit and Neurology. Ingham - Acute stroke unit and Neurology. We also have an emergency clinic where we see TIA patients. We have a close working relationship with the NNUH's emergency department where we assess & treat Stroke patients., With the development of Neuroscience, this post will enable the individual to be involved with the care of both stroke and Neurology Patients working alongside all the Multidisciplinary team through the whole stroke journey. This post will provide a key element in the stroke team's ability to provide and deliver a comprehensive specialist service 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Important aspects of their role will include initial screening of patients with acute stroke and involvement in the decision to administer thrombolysis, acute/hyper acute care immediately after stroke, and in conjunction with medical and therapy staff, ensuring post-acute care and early rehabilitation is optimised for each patient including the timely transfer of care where appropriate. There will also be the opportunity to coordinate the patient flow of both stroke and Neurology patient throughout their care pathway.
