THE EXTRAORDINARY STORY OF GIRO'S PERSUASIVE POWERS
The Environment & Communities team in Westminster City Council is a world of extraordinary stories. We love it when our work touches lives.
Take Stepping to the Beat, our 3k walk, jog or run for people with learning or physical disabilities or Autism, their families and carers. It's a life-affirming, music-based event Coreen and Claudia are massively proud of - and they were keen for people to spread the word. So, imagine how thrilled they were when one of our residents, Giro, did just that. Advocating for people with disabilities at a planning meeting for transport in London, he was proudly wearing his event medal. And he decided to use it to encourage others. As he passed it around the room, Giro inspired lots more people with disabilities to get involved. Infectious enthusiasm goes a long way here.
The Role:
As a Support Officer to our high profile Directorate, you can make your own powerful contribution by helping the Executive Director and the Senior Leadership Team fulfil their duties. Staying one step ahead of them at all times as you anticipate their needs, you will provide a dynamic support service that enables them to get on with the job in hand - and in the process, make a considerable impact on the lives of Westminster's residents.
As the largest directorate in the council, we undertake very high-profile work that impacts on the future of the city. Working both reactively and proactively, we offer a 24/7 service, so we move quickly to respond to emerging needs. As such, this is a great chance to get directly involved in a wide range of fascinating initiatives, and to see complex challenges from a different point of view. Each day will present you with new opportunities, so you will juggle a broad range of activities, prioritising these accordingly. From data collection and coordination through to overseeing the management of key engagements, you will find a multi-layered challenge, with senior colleagues relying on you for your support. On a day-to-day basis, you can expect to handle correspondence for the team, and you will organise various levelled meetings, seeing to it that everyone has access to the relevant materials.
Working closely with corporate services such as Member Support, Finance, People Services, IT, and Strategy & Intelligence teams, there really is no saying what opportunities you will be presented with!

About You:
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and confident support officer to take the lead in organising our senior leadership team.
You will be working in a small yet busy team, so you will excel in this role if you are a self-starter, with the capacity to manage your own workload. We work daily to meet tight deadlines, so you will be comfortable working at pace, using your initiative to get things done. With experience and confidence in complex diary and inbox management and supporting senior officers in their work, an understanding of decision-making processes would be beneficial. You will also be confident in delegating tasks and making decisions as necessary, so we will expect you to have exceptional verbal and written communication skills with the ability to influence others. Strong IT skills are essential, and you will enjoy getting to grips with new concepts, coming up with innovative solutions to complex problems.
Your skills to quickly be able to adapt, organise and problem solve at short notice will regularly be called upon when managing diaries and events so it is key to be resilient and able to pre-empt the needs of your senior leadership team.
Your relationship with the senior leadership team is key to ensuring a strong and effective partnership.
