Full Job Description

As the Engineering Shift Manager, you will be responsible for the line management of a shift of Engineers, ensuring a safe and engaging working environment. You will oversee the delivery of the daily shift plan, including machinery maintenance, servicing, breakdowns, and process improvement.,

  • Team Leadership: Lead and manage a team of Engineers and Technicians to ensure the safe and reliable performance of plant and machinery.
  • Task Prioritization: Prioritize tasks and utilize shift resources to meet daily requirements.
  • Health & Safety: Ensure all policies and procedures are followed, particularly Health and Safety protocols (e.g., LOTO, correct PPE).
  • Contractor Management: Oversee contractor work, including signing in/out, periodic checks, and job sheet sign-offs.
  • Performance Monitoring: Manage on-shift performance of equipment, GMP audits, workshop standards, and planned maintenance.
  • Training & Development: Identify and address the training needs of the shift, conducting 1:1s, appraisals, and Personal Development Plans.
  • System Superuser: Act as a Pirana (CMMS) Superuser to ensure effective system use by the shift team.
  • Spare Parts Management: Liaise with the Engineering Store Manager for ordering spares and managing stock levels.
  • Incident Management: Conduct fire alarm investigations and manage the engineering escalation process for major issues.
  • Personnel Management: Handle resource management, return to works, disciplinaries, and investigations.
  • Cross-Functional Communication: Ensure effective communication and escalation of daily performance and issues.
  • KPI Analysis: Understand and improve engineering and operational KPIs.
  • Meeting Participation: Attend all production and engineering meetings.
  • Data Review: Review equipment effectiveness data and coordinate job inclusion on plans.
  • Project Leadership: Lead and support improvement projects and initiatives.
  • Reporting: Produce Engineering Shift Reports/Handover.
  • Mentorship: Manage the On The Job Mentor (OTJM) to deliver a successful apprenticeship mentoring scheme.
  • Technical Investigations: Conduct investigations on QUOR: NCRs, GMP, and complaints.
  • Additional Duties: Complete other duties as required to meet company objectives., 1. Be the largest sliced cooked meat manufacturer in Europe.

  • 7+ years of engineering experience.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Training/experience in legionella, ammonia, steam, confined spaces, or working at height.
  • Basic electrical engineering experience.
  • Experience with pneumatics, hydraulics, vacuum, and process controls., Experience as a shift Engineer with similar machinery.
  • Ability to read advanced electrical/mechanical drawings.
  • PLC experience.
