To maintain our high safety standards, we are looking for a Compliance Manager to join our team and lead all matters related to Environmental Compliance and adherence to DSEAR (Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres) regulations and ACOP (Approved Code of Practice) across the diverse Royal Mail estate. The role As the Technical Subject Matter Expert, you will play a crucial part in managing and delivering compliance and remediation across our estate. In this role, you will collaborate with the Health, Safety & Environmental functions to develop and implement the Environment and DSEAR strategy, standards, assurance regimes, and supporting programs. Your focus will be on ensuring compliance with legislative requirements and best practices within environmental management and DSEAR areas and complete risk management of key environmental impacts e.g. fuel, gas, oil etc. Other accountabilities

  • SME and legal 'Responsible Person' accountable for the delivery of 'Environmental & DSEAR' Compliance across the Royal Mail Estate providing specialist expertise.
  • Develop a compliance framework aimed evidencing statutory and mandatory compliance, ensuring the work is completed to the required quality.
  • The delivery, management, and retendering process with the procurement of Specialist 3rd party service and supplier contracts.
  • Identifying and investigating trends for reactive maintenance, conduct root cause analysis, technical fault finding and making recommendations.
  • Attending customer or business meetings to review performance issues, contribute and be accountable for actions.
  • Active participation in industry networking channels/benchmarking/professional bodies to ensure that our customer service interface continually innovates and improves.
  • Manage operational issues, escalations, and resolutions with stakeholders.
  • Be part of the senior management on call escalation and Out of Hours Duty Manager rota.
  • Accountable for the budget and fiscal management for Environmental and DSEAER activities across the Royal Mail estate.

    BSc/ MSc in Environmental/DSEAR or equivalent (essential), IOSH (essential) or NEBOSH qualified.
  • Up to date accreditations in associated disciplines relating to Environmental and DSEAR (essential).
  • Experience managing all technical aspects of Environment and DSEAR including the implementation of ISO management process and systems (essential).
  • Experience of environmental and potential explosive substances and atmospheres compliance requirements, risk and management system application.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and engage teams and stakeholders.
  • Ability to work with a wide range of stakeholders, to translate environmental requirements into required actions at an operational level.
  • Experience interfacing with customers and management teams including conducting briefings and technical meetings for management and customer representatives.
  • Effective communication skills, written, oral and listening skills; strong business acumen and diverse business perspective; ability to think logically and strategically.
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills to be able to develop and deliver a plan of work.
