Full Job Description

Our Building Services team are looking for a Day Fabric Craftsperson to join the team on one of our projects in London. The purpose of the role will be to carry out fabric (including fixtures and fittings), maintenance reactive tasks and small works to a high standard. To ensure the fabric of the buildings provides a safe environment for patient's, public and staff and to maintain contractual compliance. Our Global Healthcare Centre of Excellence shares best practice from over 400 projects across the world, to deliver new approaches to our healthcare projects. A properly cleaned, ventilated or heated room makes a real difference to a patient's wellbeing and recovery. Skanska's teams support frontline workers in hospitals across the country. We help to manage and reduce hospital energy use, cutting carbon emissions and reducing waste disposal costs. You'll: To support the Estates Management in the provision of a 24hr maintenance Service within the RLH, this will include general painting, minor plastering, and other fabric tasks to a high standard. To carry out general decoration including: -

  • To prepare all existing surfaces for decoration.
  • To carry out jointing to stud walling, minor plastering works required and apply all types of paints and varnishes to a variety of surfaces.
  • Install wall protection materials.
  • Install and apply line marking to external and internal areas.
  • Replace and install silicon/mastic joints.
  • To carry out general assistance work with the other members of the fabric teamwork including: -
  • Snow clearance sweeps and gritting
  • Carry out repairs to ironmongery, blinds, door furniture and glazing
  • Prepared to erect and dismantle tower scaffolding after training
  • Carry out repairs to all types of floor finishes. Vinyl sheet and tiles, carpet, ceramic tiles in addition carry out repairs to brickwork, plaster, and tiles (floor) To work with fine tools and equipment in difficult areas and to work with associated building trades as required. To work safely with heavy equipment, work at heights and within confined spaces. To undertake any other reasonable tasks and duties relevant to the post and grade as may be determined by the Director of Estates & Facilities

  • A recognised fabric specific apprenticeship with a minimum of City & Guilds Craft certificate or equivalent ie. A base level of theoretical knowledge
  • Minimum of 2 years relevant trade experience
  • Knowledge of range of procedures for building and repair
  • Good knowledge of H&S Legislation
  • Desirable
  • Experience of building maintenance fabric
  • Experience of working in a hospital environment
  • Experience of lone working
  • Knowledge of hospital specifics (HTM's)
  • Knowledge of Health Building Notifications (HBN)
