Full Job Description

Explainers provide live interpretation in the museum galleries for all our visitors. They also deliver a wide-ranging and creative programme of activities and events for diverse audiences including schools, families, adults and community groups. They reveal the wonder of science by telling authentic stories about our collection and facilitating and supporting the learning of children and adults.

Do you have experience of successfully delivering presentations, performances or demonstrations in an engaging way to a broad range of audiences? Do you want to inspire futures by providing live interpretation in our museum galleries?, First of all, you don't need to be a science expert or have any particular qualifications in STEM. We are looking for you to have experience of working in a public-facing role using good customer service and communication skills. You will also be able to deliver presentations, performances or demonstrations. Crucially, you will have experience of working with and communicating to a broad range of people, especially children and you will have the confidence to learn to perform or present to an audience and the ability to seek and learn from feedback.

At the Science Museum Group STEM engagement is at the heart of what we do. We inform, inspire and encourage learning on-site, as well as through outreach and online. We ignite curiosity around STEM by assisting discovery through active participation and social interaction. We use the concept of science capital to shape our work and provide us with research-based insight into what influences and shapes people's engagement with, and attitudes towards, science.
