Full Job Description

The Faculty of Medicine and Health would like to recruit a Faculty Student Success Academic Lead. This is a new role for the Faculty that presents an opportunity to develop our strategy and provide direction for colleagues across the four schools working on equality and inclusion for and with our students, supporting student success and enhancing inclusivity and a sense of belonging in our academic communities across the Faculty.
This is an important moment to become Student Success Academic Lead for the Faculty of Medicine and Health given the challenges of ensuring that our educational activities and academic community are inclusive and enables success for all our students. You will play a lead role in enhancing the performance of the Faculty of Medicine and Health with respect to the University's Access and Student Success Strategy.
You will work with the Deputy Deans, Pro-Dean for Student Education, the Directors of Student Education, Heads of School, Institute Directors, School EDI Leads and relevant professional service leads (including in Educational Engagement, Lifelong Learning Centre, Leeds University Union, Leeds Institute for Teaching Excellence, Student Success Officers and SES Student Support) to identify, communicate and work towards specific targets and cultivate a culture in which the success of our students is supported and promoted. The role will cover dimensions of the Access and Student Success Strategy (Continuation, Attainment, Progression and Enablers), including support for the colleagues who are actively engaging in these areas.
As an academic leader you would be expected to play an active role in Student Education and other governance structures, reporting formally when required and using a variety of channels and approaches to share good practice and support colleagues working in this important area. In addition to chairing the Faculty Student Success, Culture and Voice Committee, the role holder would also be a member of a number of Faculty level committee's including:
Faculty Education Strategy Committee
Faculty Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Committee
Faculty Assessment and Standards Committee
Faculty Admissions and Recruitment Committee
The role in the Faculty of Medicine and Health is open to academic members of staff employed within the Faculty. The appointment is on a 0.2 FTE basis and requires the agreement of the relevant Head of School/Institute. The successful candidate will be bought out on their existing grade and salary level.
