Full Job Description
Weare inviting applications for the position of Senior Fellow inPancreaticobiliary Medicine at The Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. The postholder will be able to pursue further training in all aspects of benign andmalignant PB medicine and participate in dedicated clinics and regional MDTmeetings. Training in ERCP and / or EUS and advanced pancreaticobiliaryendoscopic techniques will be delivered in at least 5-6 dedicated lists perweek. It is expected that applicants will have commenced training in ERCP butprior EUS is not essential. This post will be supervised by Dr Matthew Huggett,Dr Bharat Paranandi, Dr Simon Everett and Dr Aaron On and is available fromSeptember 2025 until September 2026. Thispost will be offered for a fixed term of one year and is not accredited fortraining. In addition, there will be a requirement to provide inpatient wardcover for G(I)M. These duties will involve daily morning ward round duties for7 consecutive days in a 1 : 7 rotational basis. There will be no additional outof hours on call commitment, and these duties will attract an uplift in salaryto consultant equivalent rates of pay. Competentand independent in all aspects of diagnostic EUS including fine needleaspiration. Competent and fully independent inGrade 1 and 2 ERCPs., We have a weekly programme of departmental CPDactivity. This includes histopathology and clinical governance meetings,journal article and clinical topic presentations. There are opportunities todevelop teaching skills in ward based or more formal settings, includingsimulation training. Leeds also runs a yearly ERCP course and there are plansto expand the number of courses offered; involvement in the delivery of thesecourses will be encouraged. An annual appraisal (in accordance with GMCrequirements) will be arranged, along with use of the Trusts appraisaltoolkit.
Candidatesshould hold a primary medical qualification, a membership of one of the UKRoyal Colleges of Physicians and hold a CCT (or equivalent) in Gastroenterologyand General (Internal) Medicine. Candidates must be independent (JAG accreditedor equivalent) at diagnostic gastroscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy andtherapeutic gastroscopy (haemostasis). It is anticipated that candidates willhave had significant experience in ERCP (in excess of 100 procedures) but priorexperience in EUS is not necessarily required. Candidates must be eligible forregistration with the General Medical Council and hold a certificate inAdvanced Life Support from the UK Resuscitation Council, or an equivalent., 2. Competent in Grade 3 ERCPs largestones, hilar strictures, failed ERCPs, pancreatic endotherapy. 3. Competent and independent in allaspects of diagnostic EUS including fine needle aspiration. 4. Supervised dedicated training intherapeutic PB EUS Pancreatic pseudocyst drainage, necrosectomy. 5. Competent in managing the non-endoscopyaspects of benign and malignant PB medicine autoimmune pancreatitis,chronic pancreatitis, familial and acute pancreatitis. 6. Develop and understand the role of HPBsurgeons in the management of these disorders. 7. Experience of working as a Consultantin G(I)M.,
- JAG accreditation (or equivalent) in upper endoscopy and independence at therapeutic gastroscopy for haemostasis
- Current ALS certification or equivalent
- Evidence of competence in management of common gastrointestinal conditions and emergencies
- CCT (or equivalent) in Gastroenterology and General (Internal) Medicine Experience Essential
- Evidence of competence to work without direct supervision
- Awareness of GMCs Good Research Practice guidance (General Medical Council, 2010)
- Evidence of completion of higher specialty (ST3 and above) competencies in Gastroenterology and General (Internal) Medicine
- Evidence that the candidate has participated in at least 100 ERCPs
- Able to work in multi-professional teams & supervise junior medical staff Desirable
- Prior training in EUS Eligibility, Fitness to practice, and Language Skills Essential
- Eligible for full registration with the GMC at time of application and hold a current licence to practice
- Demonstrates clarity in written / spoken communication & capacity to adapt language as appropriate to the situation
- Able to build rapport, listen, persuade & negotiate
