Full Job Description

As a Fire Safety officer you'll thrive on ensuring fire safety within Leeds City Council corporate building, and that all staff and customers are as safe as possible during there time within our buildings It's not about just undertaking Fire Risk Assessments, its about ensuring that all our buildings and there occupants are as safe as they can be during there time within them., As our next Fire Safety Officer you'll be a key person in Leeds City Council strategy in ensuring fire safety throughout Leeds City Council corporate estate. This would entail undertaking fire risk assessments and inspections at various corporate properties, and ensuring that occupants of our buildings know who their competent persons regarding fire safety is., Undertake inspections and risk assessments to council assets in order to manage the corporate risk arising from fire safety, determine stock condition, defects and risk, then identify, diagnose, and develop solutions to assist the overall asset management of the authorities housing, corporate and educational stock in line with, legislation, internal policies and procedures. Provide advice, training, and expertise to divisional colleagues upon actions to take to improve fire safety, produce specifications and schedules of work where required. Responsibilities:

  • Frontline delivery of the service and collection of asset related information in-line with council and departmental performance standards, values, policies and priorities.
  • Manage all activities in compliance with legal, regulatory, contract and internal requirements.
  • Support the delivery of service plans in-line with council objectives in order to achieve excellence.
  • Continually drive a value for money, customer focussed service.
  • Take ownership for operational issues and manage relationships with all stakeholders to ensure effective and efficient service delivery.
  • Ensure the ordering and delivery of works within individual delegated budgets and agreed budget profiles, including the prioritisation, and planning of work.
  • Take accountability for the outputs of all duties

  • Flexible and adaptable to change to assist other services as required commensurate to grade.
  • Participate in appraisal, training and development activities as necessary to ensure up to date knowledge and skills.

  • To work collaboratively with colleagues, knowing when to seek help and advice.
  • Contribute to the overall ethos, work, and aims of the service by attending relevant meetings, training days/events as requested.
  • Be aware of and comply with Leeds City Council policies and procedures e.g., child protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person.

Qualifications Technical Qualification in the field of fire safety management, such as NEBOSH Fire Safety and Risk Management Certificate or IFE course.

    As a Fire Safety Officer, you will bring to the role:
  • Technical Qualification in the field of fire safety management, such as NEBOSH Fire Safety and Risk Management Certificate or IFE course.
  • Passion for ensuring all occupants of building are safe
  • Ability to communicate and ensure any actions required are closed within a reasonable time frame

  • Ability to understand and observe Leeds City Council Equal Opportunities Policy, Able to plan and organise own workload in a busy environment
  • Ability to diagnose and develop solutions to technical repair problems
  • Developing and maintaining working relationships with suppliers and staff,
  • Able to assess building related hazards through a standard risk assessment procedure and prioritise follow on actions accordingly
  • Experience of using Microsoft packages to record and present service information.
  • To contribute to delivering a team culture that is focussed both on customers and quality
  • Able to develop timely and cost-effective solutions to operational problems
  • Able to negotiate on day-to-day operational issues with suppliers in order to develop favourable outcomes for the council and for customers
  • Knowledge Required
  • Technical Qualification in the field of fire safety management, such as NEBOSH Fire Safety and Risk Management Certificate or IFE course.
  • Strong knowledge of building defects / construction techniques
  • Strong knowledge of landlord's responsibilities in relation to repairs and maintenance
  • Up to date knowledge of social housing and issues affecting the sector
  • Strong knowledge safe construction Health and Safety procedures
  • Experience Required
  • Experience of working within a fire safety management field
  • Experience of carrying out Fire Risk Assessments of in an asset management related service area
  • Experience of working jointly with staff and contractors from different teams/organisations in order to achieve common goals.
