Full Job Description

We are looking for a Graduate Engineer who has achieved an ICE accredited qualification BEng/MEng or other relevant course to join us.

The role will primarily work within the Highway Design & Construction (HDC) team which is part of the Capital Delivery Service.

About You

To proactively assist and support work of the Highways Design and Construction team including the development of design and construction delivery. These projects vary from simple schemes (e.g. the upgrade of footways and provision of uncontrolled drop crossings and signing) to complex highway schemes (e.g. the design of traffic signal-controlled junctions to provide improved pedestrian and cycle provision). You will also be involved in developing and assisting in the checking, approval acceptance, site supervision and site inspection of project work progressed under Section 38 and 278 of the Highways Act 1980.

You will be contributing to the strategic direction of the service through the development of schemes that advance the success of Stockport as a leading authority in the north-west.

As part of a busy service, you will need to be able to prioritise workloads and work with colleagues in other teams to deliver the best value service for the residents of Stockport. You will ensure that council resources are utilised effectively, delivering value for money, enhancing opportunities to improve efficiencies, and generating income where appropriate.

You will be providing high-quality, cost-effective services taking a holistic, joined up view of design, delivery, maintenance, and evaluation in accordance with council policy. Project manage and deliver services and/or projects, taking a holistic, joined up view of service and/or project design, delivery, maintenance, and evaluation.

Our graduate development is a four-year programme designed to provide you with both professional skills and specialist technical development opportunities, paving the way to you achieving a professional qualification with support from a mentor.

We are an ICE Approved training provider and our Graduate Civil Engineering Training Programme meets the requirements of the Institution of Civil Engineers.
