Healthcare Assistant - Older Peoples Medicine

Under the direction of the Registered Nurse, you will work with all members of the multidisciplinary team and you will contribute to the provision of the highest standards of patient care. Older Peoples medicine (OPM) is a specialty that has evolved in recent years to meet the needs of the growing population of people over the age of 80 years old. We are the largest directorate within the trust. Patients are cared for within 5 inpatient wards & our outpatient services. Each ward will have a unique specialist focus within the specialism. Brundall, Dunston, Earsham, Loddon & Elsing Ward. Dunston Ward & Brundall are acute OPM wards, caring for patients with complex cognitive impairment/delirium & or with complex care needs. Earsham is an ortho/medical ward caring for patient requiring surgery for fracture Neck of Femurs. The wards have 37/8 beds, they are spilt into teams to care for the patients. Each team will consist of registered & unregistered members of staff. The wards provide high standards of care/support to patients & their families approaching at the end of their lives. This care is supported by our dementia palliative care specialist nurse. As wards we try to reduce patient's deconditioning in hospital which is supported by trained exercise professionals. In OPM we like to focus on celebrating occasions within the ward environments & we like to involve relatives & patients where possible. We are currently have a specialist Dementia Garden going through the planning stage which will provide a safe outside interactive space for the benefit of our patients, their families & staff., Join us at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital and be part of a workforce of over 10,000 staff!
