HMICFRS independently assesses the effectiveness and efficiency of police forces and fire and rescue services in the public interest. We promote improvements in policing and fire and rescue services to make everyone safer.
We are independent of the Government, police and fire and rescue services. We ask the questions that we believe the public wish to have answered and produce major reports that shine a light on issues at the very heart of policing and fire and rescue services.

We set ourselves high standards, taking great pride in the quality of work we achieve and the opportunities we create for our staff., Inspection officers are essential to the conduct of HMICFRS inspection programmes. They are responsible for supporting inspections by ensuring that thorough preparation and detailed fieldwork and analysis is undertaken to the highest standards.
Responsibilities
+ Undertaking inspection activity, including audit reviews, interviews, and reality testing.
+ Supporting inspections including planning and subsequent report writing, and follow-up activity.
+ Collaborating with partner inspectorates to design the most complete inspection in the most efficient and effective manner.
+ Working with colleagues across the organisation to promote HMICFRS objectives and purpose.
+ Providing feedback to police forces during inspections to support continuous improvement.
+ Line management responsibilities for staff members, ensuring all aspects of HR management of personnel is fulfilled including monthly check-ins, annual development reviews and performance management.
+ Responsibility for developing personal and team knowledge re the subject matter of any given inspection.
+ Acting as an ambassador for HMICFRS ensuring the highest standards of professional conduct are always demonstrated

+ A detailed understanding of Policing and the challenges the service faces in relation to police custody.
+ Experience within the criminal justice sector and/or inspection, audit, review sectors.

His Majestys Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services (HMICFRS) is a national organisation with a Head Office in Birmingham and regional offices in London, Salford and Leeds. In line with the Places for Growth Programme HMICFRS will relocate more roles based outside London and the Southeast over the next six to seven years. This inspection role is being advertised on a national basis and will be home working.
This role will involve an amount of national travel; therefore, the post will involve overnight stays away from home.

and for Inspection Staff - HMICFRS has an Inspection Development Programme and linked accreditation process that all inspection staff undertake in our organisation. The expectation is that all new inspection staff will complete a portfolio of evidence within agreed timescales (normally 12 months) and once this is complete it will be assessed by a trained assessor.
