Full Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Radiology Nursing Team at West Suffolk Hospital. We are a small team of Nurses and Imaging Assistants supporting and caring for patients attending the Radiology department for a variety of diagnostic procedures as well as more complex Interventional Procedures performed in our Interventional Theatres. We provide staff with many opportunities to gain new knowledge and skills including scrub nurse in our Interventional Theatres and conscious sedation whilst being closely supported by our senior nursing team. Staff will be supported to complete an extensive list of competencies and encouraged to access regular training opportunities to enhance their professional development., Key Tasks & Responsibilities

Participate in the provision of patient care and support throughout the radiology department including CT/MRI/Plain Film and Nuclear Medicine responding to any deteriorating patients, or patients experiencing allergic reactions/anaphylaxis to initiate assessment and treatment whilst waiting for outreach/resuscitation team.

Responsible for clinical assessment and management of any out-patients attending the radiology department who experience unexpected clinical events, ensuring appropriate care is provided and concerns are escalated as indicated.

Monitor and support patients undergoing complex interventional radiology procedures acting as scrub nurse or circulating nurse as required following completion of competencies.

Responsible for the timely booking of, pre-assessment and preparation of patients undergoing interventional procedures in the radiology department following a period of induction.

Liaising closely with the multi-disciplinary teams across the trust to ensure timely interventions as required.

Responsible for admission, preparation, pre/ post-procedure care and discharge of patients admitted to our Interventional Radiology Day Unit for day-case procedures following a period of induction.
