Full Job Description

The Locally Employed Trust Grade Doctors are responsible for the care of patients in the Department for Trauma and Orthopaedics, including admission, clerking, day-to-day care, preparation for operation, treatment regimes, post-operative care and safe discharge.Main duties of the job + Contribution to emergency orthopaedic and trauma 'on-call' service. You will be first on-call and clerk, admit patients from A&E, take referrals from GPs. You will have support and supervision from the on-call Registrar and Consultant. + The on call rota is based on a full shift system, the week of nights is split into 4 and 3 nights i.e., Monday to Thursday and Friday to Sunday. The on call rota is made up of 12 persons covering the Doncaster and Bassetlaw sites. There is a dedicated "on call" bleep and "ward cover" . You must carry appropriate bleeps accordingly. + Continuous care of orthopaedic in-patients: Although you are designated to work for named consultants, you must work flexibly with your colleagues and share workload. + Participation in Ward Rounds with the appropriate Consultant: Attend the out-patient and fracture clinics whenever possible., The job plan is subject to annual review and will be agreed under national terms and conditions. This is the responsibility of the Divisional Director, but may be carried out by the Business Manager or Lead Clinician on their behalf. Should an agreement not be reached, advice can be sought from the Medical Director. The appointee is expected to undergo annual appraisal and must contribute to this process, which will inform the process of revalidation and job planning. The appointee will actively participate in annual job planning The duties of the post may be changed with the agreement of the post holder. The basic Job Plan consists of an average of 48 hours per week and the post holder will work within teams supporting 3 consultants, supported by fully trained Advanced Clinical Practitioners. The appointee is expected to be adaptable to changing circumstances of service demand and provision. + You should attend daily trauma meetings at 8 am, attend lunchtime teaching programs on Mondays and Tuesdays. You will participate actively in the departmental audit and research. + Teaching: You will be expected to participate in teaching Medical Students and Nurse Practitioners and contribute to all departmental postgraduate educational and audit activities. + Research: Research is encouraged. + Clinical Governance / Audit: You will be expected to participate in departmental audit and will be expected to undertake an audit project during each placement.
