Full Job Description
Throughthe West Yorkshire Major Trauma Network, the MTC serves patients across theregion from incident to rehabilitation. Each morning the team has aMulti-disciplinary team meeting to discuss all major trauma patients within thehospital. Throughout the day the MTC centre receives acute admissions fromaround the region. Our Major Trauma Nurse specialists co-ordinate the care ofour patients as soon as they come through the door into the emergencydepartment. They then follow the patient pathway through the different levelsof care that are required supporting both the patient and their relatives upuntil and beyond discharge.
Thesuccessful applicant must possess the FRCS (In Trauma and Orthopaedics) orequivalent, have completed higher specialist training (or equivalent) inT&O and be on the specialist register or be within six months of beingadmitted to the register for trainees if currently in a training programmewithin the UK. Thesuccessful candidate must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinicalexperience in Trauma & Orthopaedics to complement the high profile servicein Leeds. Applicants should haveestablished skills in the management of major trauma. Excellent communicationand team working skills, a strong commitment to teaching and servicedevelopment are essential. Considerationwill be given to applicants who wish to work full or part-time, Eligibility, Fitness to practice, and Language Skills,
- Eligible for full registration with the GMC at time of appointment and hold a current licence to practice.

LocumConsultant in Trauma and Orthopaedics with sub-specialty expertise in MajorTrauma Inorder to support the Trusts Major Trauma Centre in the Yorkshire and Humberregion, we are looking to appoint a Locum Orthopaedic Major TraumaConsultant. This is a 10 PA locum appointmentand the post will be available from November 2024 for a period of 12months. Thepost will maintain our established team of Consultants within the Trauma &Orthopaedic department at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. TheTrauma & Orthopaedic department has both national and internationalrecognition for research as well as maintaining strong research links with theUniversity of Leeds. The successful applicants willwork at the centre of a regional network that covers nearly 4 million people(adults & children) in our Major Trauma Centre, including dedicated majortrauma ward, theatres and critical care facilities. Asa natural hub for Yorkshire, and with excellent connections to all parts of theNorth of England, we have worked hard to bring a logical alignment to patientservices within well equipped, modern facilities which will see servicesdedicated to helping critically ill patients all located together in theJubilee Wing at Leeds General Infirmary., LEEDSMAJOR TRAUMA CENTRE (MTC) SERVICE LeedsGeneral Infirmary opened as a level 1 trauma centre on 2nd April 2013. Due to its regional remit it providesresponsibility of care to a population of almost 3 million. The supportencompasses all aspects of trauma care included attendance at trauma calls,co-ordination and prioritisation of patient care, and emergency admissions aswell as emergency operating. The service was recently rewarded as the secondbusiest in England and also produced the second-best quality outcomes withinthe country (as per TARN data)., TheNetwork was established in 2013 to bring together Major Trauma Care across WestYorkshire and is a collaboration between ourselves and five Trauma Units inother hospitals in the region. This ensures all patients that require majortrauma services have access to the right level of care at the right time, inthe right environment. Wehave invested a further £8m over the years to enhance facilities, including thecreation of a dedicated MTC ward and theatre, and enhanced staffing. Aswell as being the second largest MTC in the country we have consistentlyremained in the top three for outcomes. Over the last three years, Leeds MTChas been leading the way nationally in the management of major limb traumarequiring combined plastic and orthopaedic surgery which is a huge achievement. JuniorMedical Staff WithinMajor trauma and General trauma and orthopaedics there are 16 SpRs supportedthrough the Yorkshire deanery from ST3-ST8 and 5 Trust grade registrar postsproviding support on a registrar rota. There are 3 Core Trainee grades and 5trust grades and 12 FY doctors to support this rota. In addition there are two specialityOrthopaedic posts within the service establishment.
