Full Job Description

The Audit Manager will work as part of the Audit Department in UK that covers end to end processes in the Europe business lines and assist the Head of Audit UK and the Chief Auditor, Europe in assessing the effectiveness of controls in front / middle / back offices and other functions that support these business lines. The Internal Audit Department plays a key role in the risk management process of the Bank. Its mandate is to provide independent and objective assurance over the design and operation of the Bank's controls and operational processes and to provide advisory services designed to improve the Bank's operations. The Audit Manager will be required to have good knowledge of the UK and EU regulatory environment and regulations relevant to the capital markets and treasury businesses, and a good understanding of the operational processes and controls supporting capital markets and treasury businesses. The Audit Manager should be proficient at applying risk-based auditing standards, practices, techniques, processes and methodologies to the performance and review of audits. Accountabilities

  • Act primarily as Team Participant or in some cases act as Officer-In-Charge (OIC) on assignments of low to medium complexity for assigned projects, processes, and units.
  • Ensure Scotiabank standards and the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) Code of Ethics are maintained in completion of all assignments.
  • Execute assigned audit activities independently as a team member under the direction of the OIC on
  • assignments. This includes completion of audit testing, discussions with management and documentation of work performed.
  • Executes, plans and reports on the assigned audit projects. Obtains a thorough understanding of the business/unit/process and associated risks, develops a risk-based audit plan/procedures, and schedules timing and resources.
  • Delivers end-to- end process of the execution of the audit and ensures nature and extent of testing is appropriate to support the objective, scope, and overall opinion. Completes timely review of workpapers, ensures internal control weaknesses are clearly documented with recommendations addressing the root cause and are communicated timely to management.
  • Summarize issues and review/edit reports on a timely basis. Present an overview of the audit results and findings to the OIC or Director. Ensures audit reports are written to a consistent high standard and are finalized within established department metrics.
  • Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems, and knowledge.
  • Comply with department established HR Management policies and procedures. Prepare periodic and annual performance self-assessments, personal goals, and objectives for measurement of performance, a career development and training plan and monitor for achievement/completion.
  • As directed by management, carry out specific projects or investigations of a moderate or high complexity and/or confidential nature. Plan, document, and seek agreement in advance to the project approach and confirm conclusions upon completion in writing. Assist with peer review Quality Assurance Program including review of documentation and reports of assigned audit project and reporting of findings to the Audit Professional Practice Group.

  • Good analytical skills and proficiency in the use of data analytic or visualization tools.
  • Ability to work in high levels of ambiguity and in a rapidly changing environment.
