Full Job Description

As Media Relations Specialist you will play a critical role in protecting and shaping the corporate reputation of Pennon Group, working closely with the Lead Media Relations Manager. This role is responsible for handling reactive media inquiries, crafting compelling narratives, and building strong relationships with journalists at both the local and national levels. The role requires exceptional communication skills, a strong understanding of the media landscape, and the ability to align messaging with Pennon's strategic objectives and vision. \n What you'll be doing:

  • Build and maintain trusted relationships with key local and national journalists.
  • Act as a primary contact for media inquiries, ensuring timely and accurate responses.
  • Position Pennon as a credible and trusted source for expertise and information.
  • Write and edit high-quality press releases, media statements, and other key documents.
  • Identify and craft compelling narratives that align with Pennon's values and strategic priorities.
  • Translate complex business information into accessible, engaging language for diverse audiences.
  • Respond proactively and confidently to media inquiries, ensuring alignment with company messaging.
  • Support the management of Pennon's reputation, particularly in high-pressure or reactive situations.
  • Work closely with Public Affairs, Customer Service, and other key teams to ensure consistency in messaging.
  • Provide media-related advice and expertise to internal stakeholders.
  • Assist the Lead Media Relations Manager in managing complex or challenging media issues.
  • Provide clear strategies and responses to mitigate reputational risks during crises or breaking news events.

    Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, English, or related field.
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills, with a track record of creating impactful press releases and media materials.
  • Ability to manage high-pressure situations and respond effectively to challenging media inquiries.
  • Strong understanding of the UK media landscape, including print, broadcast, and digital platforms.
  • Proven experience in media relations, journalism, or corporate communications.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with journalists at the local and national levels.
  • Experience supporting media strategies and responding to inquiries during high-pressure situations.
  • Experience working in a collaborative environment, supporting senior leaders or teams to implement communication plans.
  • Knowledge of regulated industries, utilities, or other highly regulated sectors would be desirable.
  • Familiarity with media monitoring tolls and platforms would be desirable.
