Full Job Description

The Ministry of Defence Medal Office and Joint Casualty & Compassionate Centre (JCCC) are part of Defence Business Services and comprise c70 MOD Civil Servants. The Medal Office is responsible for assessing and awarding all officially-issued military medals to serving personnel, veterans, civil servants, contractors and their next of kin, dating back to WW1. JCCC manages the impact of illness, injury or death amongst Service personnel worldwide and supports serving personnel deployed overseas to manage the impact of family illness or crisis.
As part of a small 'crossover' enabling team, this role supports the efficient and effective operation of both teams, and is responsible for scoping and onboarding potential new services, predominantly in the Medal Office. This encompasses:

Providing clear and sensitive leadership to maintain morale and the management of staff, in addition to supporting colleagues in accordance with Departmental best practice
Coordinating the MODMO's ability to onboard new requirements, liaising with internal SMEs and external stakeholders, including other government departments. This will include scoping, discovery/data analysis, feasibility, resourcing, funding, legislative compliance and implementation of new requirements and services
Identifying and scoping MODMO's ability to onboard other Government medal services under the Government Shared Services and Corporate Service Modernisation Strategies.
Coordinating, managing and delivering a range of enabling contracts for JCCC & MODMO such as, but not limited to, MOD medal stock & ancillary services, engraving machines, repatriation, DNA analysis, provision of headstones and support from the National Association of Memorial Masons. This involves liaising with appropriate business, commercial and financial teams, plus governance authorities both internal and external to MOD, along with data/financial analysis (such expenditure, investment appraisals and post project evaluations).
Providing support to the wider team for minor commercial activity, where required.
Supporting risks and issues reviews, along with enhancing Business Continuity Planning to ensure both extant and new services can continue to operate.
Acting as the Deputy Information Assurance Officer for MODMO to ensure appropriate Data Protection Impact Assessments, Data Flow Controls, Memoranda of Understanding and Data Sharing Agreements are reviewed, updated and approved by the appropriate authorities. This will include liaising with appropriate business, data protection, information assurance, security and legal experts.
Overseeing the coordination of external stakeholder engagement, tours and events; providing cover where required for the team member responsible for the daily management of this activity.
This role is office based however, DBS are working hard to improve our access to, and use of, digital technology, empowering our people to work remotely.
