Full Job Description
As a key leader in our team, your day will involve supervising and reporting on significant incidents, possessions, and major events that impact multiple routes. You will provide direction and coordination to both route and central teams. Your responsibilities will include managing and coordinating contingency plans across route boundaries for engineering works and significant events, supporting cross-route train operations, and seeking opportunities to improve contingency arrangements as conditions change.
You will engage in stakeholder management, making regulation decisions on long-distance, freight, and other cross-route operations to enhance customer and passenger experiences. Additionally, you will coordinate and facilitate the management of significant risk items of national interest, maintaining situational awareness of the national safety overview and escalating issues as necessary.
A crucial part of your role will be leading the national approach for critical infrastructure contingency plans in collaboration with the Department for Transport (DfT), particularly for major incidents and severe national weather events. Your leadership and strategic coordination will be essential in ensuring the smooth operation and safety of our railway network.
Please be aware this role holds a mandatory requirement for the incumbent to hold valid security vetting clearance. Any offer will be conditional on the successful candidate obtaining clearance prior to a start date being agreed.
We seek a dedicated professional capable of attaining Institute of Railway Operators Member level and Rail Incident Commander competence. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of the railway operating code, service recovery, contingency planning, and safety-critical operational management. Essential skills include strategic and tactical incident management, real-time railway incident planning, strong communication, leadership, and decision-making influence. Additionally, the candidate should understand the railway network geography., · Ability to attain Institute of Railway Operators Member level
· Extensive knowledge of the railway operating code, service recovery, contingency planning and railway operating and maintenance practices
· Experience in operational management in a safety critical Industry
· Experience of incident management at strategic and tactical level
· Able to demonstrate real time railway incident planning skills
· Proven verbal communication and leadership skills
· Proven ability to influence decision making
· Geographical understanding of the railway network
