We have an exciting opportunity within Network Rail High Speed for an Operations Director, a high-impact role within our executive team. This is a rare opportunity to lead our route operations, international managed stations, and performance teams, taking full ownership of railway performance and operational delivery.   • Inspire excellence in the quality of service provided to our client and customers.
  • Direct the management of safety within the geographical area and act as a role model in the promotion of safety and environmental excellence across all areas of control.
  • Direct the area team to achieve business / functional objectives and meet key performance measures. Create an engaged, motivated working environment in line with company values.
  • Create a culture to enable customer and frontline employee feedback to be reflected in policies and procedures to deliver continuous performance improvement.
  • Achieve financial, technical, safety and customer satisfaction targets as agreed with our board.
  • Lead delivery of operations in compliance with policies, procedures and standards and direct the development of disaster and incident management plans. Support the on-site management of recovery from major incidents.
  • Manage the development and implementation of safety, train performance and customer satisfaction, initiatives. With the Infrastructure Director, create plans to address customer needs and performance issues.
  • Lead real-time delivery of train performance and implement processes to deliver continuous improvement.
  • Provide input to business plans, policies, standards and network strategies.

    In this pivotal position, you’ll champion our people, driving operational excellence through inspirational leadership and fostering a culture of continuous improvement. You will also be commercially astute, who can skilfully balance the safety of our people and passengers, the delivery of excellent train performance, whilst driving efficiency and optimising revenue opportunities.

  • Chartered member of relevant professional body or equivalent experience?
  • Significant successful experience in operational management in a safety critical industry?
  • Recognised operational delivery leadership capability?
  • The ability to demonstrate in depth knowledge and experience of health and safety management and compliance management processes?
  • Proven ability to influence decision making and build cross functional / cross company relationships?
  • A proven track record of customer relationship management?
  • Significant knowledge of the rail industry?
  • Successful experience of managing business unit financials?
  • The ability to demonstrate understanding of our safety management system?
  • Although it isn’t essential, it would be helpful if you have in-depth understanding of the railway industry and its needs and interfaces.

    Network Rail High Speed Ltd. (NRHS) is responsible for operating and maintaining the UK’s only international high-speed railway, High Speed (HS1). The 109km HS1 infrastructure consists of a diverse range of railway assets such as the track, signalling, overhead line, lineside buildings, depots, viaducts and long tunnels.
