Full Job Description

+ To supervise and maintain the Pharmacy clinical trials service in accordance with ICH GCP guidelines and Pharmacy procedures and ensure provision of a high quality service to patients and staff within the Trust.
+ Undertake the receipt, dispensing, accountability, returns and destruction of clinical trials in the clinical trials pharmacies in the main pharmacy and the Quadram Institute (QI) Clinical Research Facility (CRF) ensuring all trials are managed in accordance with GCP.
+ To ensure dispensing, storage and expiry date records for clinical trials are kept up-to-date and archived for future reference.
+ To manage quarantined clinical trials medication and report results of quarantined medicine investigations to the clinical trials pharmacists.
+ To plan, organise and manage the daily workload of the pharmacy clinical trials service in conjunction with the clinical trials pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and assistants.
+ To maintain the pharmacy site file for all clinical trials.
+ To provide, in conjunction with the appropriate Clinical Pharmacy Practitioners, a ward technician medicines management service on specified wards.
+ To undertake drug history taking in conjunction with the appropriate Clinical Pharmacy Practitioners on specified wards.
+ To provide counselling advice to patients on their medicines, providing advice to patients and carers about compliance issues.
+ To organise and undertake the dispensing and distribution of all medicines against a previously clinically checked prescription or request in line with departmental policies and procedures and the Medicines Act 1965 using the JAC computer system.

Travelling to work
Staff parking is available onsite; however, this is limited during core working hours. We have more capacity in the evening and at weekends and can usually provide spaces during those hours.
We look to allocate these spaces fairly. Our Travel Office have a set of criteria that staff must meet in order to qualify. If you qualify for a space, you may be placed on a waiting list if we are at full capacity.
The NNUH is served by a number of public buses, and we offer generously discounted monthly passes with First Bus & Konect.
The Costessey Park and Ride runs regularly each day from 06:30 (from P&R) to 20:45 (from NNUH) and this service is free for NHS staff. There is a regular Thickthorn P&R service as well which is free. Applications to the Travel Office are required for this service. We also have a discounted service from the airport P&R if you purchase a bundle. Please see Konect website for further details.
The NNUH host multiple bicycle racks and a salary sacrifice scheme. We also benefit from a Beryl station onsite.

The successful applicant will join the Clinical Trials team who manage the clinical trial medicines dispensed to patients recruited to clinical trials in the Trust. The post holder will be involved in all aspect of clinical trials medicine management including receipting deliveries, dispensing, checking and temperature monitoring of clinical trial medicines and participate in meetings with research teams involving the set-up of new clinical trials. Full clinical trials training and Good Clinical Practice training will be provided. The postholder will also participate in the clinical ward service and drug history taking. We invite applications from ACPT accredited pharmacy technicians with a minimum of 1 year post ACPT qualification experience. You should be dedicated, flexible and able to work in a high pressured, busy and demanding working environment. You will need to be enthusiastic, have excellent communication and organisational skills and a genuine
interest in developing your skills and knowledge. You will be expected to use a number of computer-based systems and, therefore, will have good IT skills.
All staff are required to participate in the weekend rota with corresponding time off during the week, currently 1 in 10. All staff are required to undertake at least one public holiday duty per year. All rotas are subject to review at any time
The successful applicant will need to be able to work Mondays as part of their working week.

The Pharmacy Department provides a fully comprehensive pharmaceutical service across the Trust & to a number of external community units. Functions of the Pharmacy Department include the ordering, receipt & supply of medicines to wards & departments throughout the Trust & external units. This includes dispensing for inpatients, outpatients, community units & supplying ward stocks averaging around 2,500 items a day. Wards & external units are provided with a clinical service with pharmacists & pharmacy technicians an integral part of the multidisciplinary team. The Pharmacy provides Aseptic Services such as the preparation & supply of chemotherapy & other sterile products.
